IMO SMCP
(IMO standard phrases)
English-speaking communication in the maritime sector, especially in the field
of safety communication, must be precise, simple and clear. To achieve this,
a comprehensive standardized safety language has been developed that
covers all essential safety-relevant language situations.
The use of Standard Communication Phrases (SMCPs) should be (always)
preferred as often as possible over other formulations. Their use must be
made in strict accordance with the relevant provisions of the ITU provisions in
the Radio Regulations.
