Socio-Economic Analysis Of Canada

Canada is a country in the northern part of North America. Its ten provinces and
three territories extend from the Atlantic to the Pacific and northward into the
Arctic Ocean, covering 9.98 million square kilometres (3.85 million square miles),
making it the world's second-largest country by total area. Its southern border with
the United States, stretching 8,891 kilometres (5,525 mi), is the world's longest bi-
national land border. Canada's capital is Ottawa, and its three largest metropolitan
areas are Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
Canada Economy

Canada is the world's tenth-largest economy as of 2018, with a nominal GDP of

approximately US$1.73 trillion. It is one of the least corrupt countries in the
world, and is one of the world's top ten trading nations, with a
highly globalized economy. Canada has a mixed economy ranking above the U.S.
and most western European nations on The Heritage Foundation's Index of
Economic Freedom, and experiencing a relatively low level of income
disparity. The country's average household disposable income per capita is "well
above" the OECD average. The Toronto Stock Exchange is the ninth-largest stock
exchange in the world by market capitalization, listing over 1,500 companies with
a combined market capitalization of over US$2 trillion.
In 2018, Canadian trade in goods and services reached CA$1.5 trillion. Canada's
exports totalled over CA$585 billion, while its imported goods were worth
over CA$607 billion, of which approximately CA$391 billion originated from the
United States, CA$216 billion from non-U.S. sources. In 2018, Canada had a trade
deficit in goods of CA$22 billion and a trade deficit in services of CA$25 billion.
Social, Economical and other indicators of Canada
 Unemployment rate:-

The unemployment rate is the share of the labor force that is jobless, expressed as a
percentage. It is a lagging indicator, meaning that it generally rises or falls in the
wake of changing economic conditions, rather than anticipating them.

 Poverty rate

The poverty rate is the ratio of the number of people (in a given age group)
whose income falls below the poverty line; taken as half the median household
income of the total population. It is also available by broad age group: child
poverty (0-17 years old), working-age poverty and elderly poverty

 GDP:-

The GDP growth rate measures how fast the economy is growing. It does this by
comparing one quarter of the country's gross domestic product to the previous
quarter. GDP measures the economic output of a nation.

 CO2 emissions (metric tons per capita):-

Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important trace gas in Earth's atmosphere. It is an

integral part of the carbon cycle, a biogeochemical cycle in which carbon is
exchanged between the Earth's oceans, soil, rocks and the biosphere. Plants and
other photoautotrophs use solar energy to produce carbohydrate from atmospheric
carbon dioxide and water by photosynthesis.

 Life expectancy at birth, total (years):-

Life expectancy is a statistical measure of the average time an organism is

expected to live, based on the year of its birth, its current age and other
demographic factors including gender. The most commonly used measure is life
expectancy at birth (LEB), which can be defined in two ways. Cohort LEB is the
mean length of life of an actual birth cohort (all individuals born a given year) and
can be computed only for cohorts born many decades ago, so that all their
members have died.
 International migrant stock, total:-

States may engage in coercive migration diplomacy, namely 'the threat or act by a
state, or coalition of states, to affect either migration flows to/from a target state or
its migrant stock as a punishment, unless the target state acquiesces to an
articulated political or economic demand.' Coercive migration diplomacy strategies
involve violence or the threat of force.
Data Analysis
1. Unemployment and poverty

Interpretation:-The unemployment rate is defined as the percentage of

unemployed workers in the total labor force. Workers are considered unemployed
if they currently do not work, despite the fact that they are able and willing to do
so. The total labor force consists of all employed and unemployed people within an
economy.

The unemployment rate was highest in the year 2010 and with respect to that the
poverty is also at its peak as the above graph shows that there is a positive relation
of unemployment and poverty as poverty means people are working below the
money fixed by the government as the unemployment force them to work at lower
rate as in Canada the graph of 2000 to 2010 shows that unemployment is the main
reason of poverty in Canada
2. GDP

Interpretation: - The GDP growth rate is the most important indicator of

economic health. It changes during the four phases of the business cycle: peak,
contraction, trough, and expansion.

In year 2009 the Canadian GDP as lowest in last 20 year as it was the first time
when there GDP was in negative face and as the graph represent that after 2008
there is not evern a single year in which the GDP of Canada remain stable as in
year 2015 the GDP was 0.68% which is not good as campare to the world
economy this is the time when businesses hold off investing in new purchases.
They are delaying hiring new employees until they are confident theeconomy will
improve. Those delays further depress the economy. Without jobs, consumers have
less money to spend.
3. Life expectancy at birth, total (years):-

 Interpretation:- Life expectancy at birth means the difference between the

life and death as in year 2001 the life expectancy was 79399 as this shows
the gap between the life and death ratio in Canada as every year this gap is
expending and the growth of this graph shows two different things first the
health and safety are growing the Canada as well as it shows the death ratio
that is going down as in year 2001 the life expectancy rate is 79399 and in
10 years the rate grows to 81499 and every year it is growing at a rate of 100
to 200 each year.
4. International migrant stock

Interpretation: - International migration is a global phenomenon that is growing

in scope, complexity and impact. Migration is both a cause and effect of broader
development processes and an intrinsic feature of our ever globalizing world. The
data shows the level of migrants in Canadian border in every 5 years as the is 1994
there were almost 5 Lakh migrants present in Canada and in year 2014 there were
almost 8 Lakh migrants were present in Canada in last 20 year 3 Lakh people enter
in Canada illegally by border or any other medium. Migrants are the responsible
for the loose of economical as well as social factors within a country.

The data shows that there were a tremendous increase in the international migrants
in Canada in year 2009 there were 7.011,216 migrants cases were seen inside the
country as in that year the GDP reach to -2.93% lowest in the history of Canada.
5. CO2 emissions

Interpretation: - Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important trace gas in Earth's

atmosphere. It is an integral part of the carbon cycle, a biogeochemical cycle. As
the above graph shows that there decrease in the emissions of CO2 in the
atmosphere as in year 2000 the emission was 17415 (metric tons per capita) and
from year 2008 to 2013 this graph fall and in year 2013 the emission was
14741metric tons per capita which shows the improvement in the social life of
people and it’s also shows the reduction of use of products used to create C02 in
atmosphere according to world data report there is increase in the use of electronic
product as well which is one of the main reason of this decline in CO2 level.
