Primary Science Design Brief

The students are assigned a project to design and create a model of the solar system in groups of 3. They must research the sizes and orbits of the planets and construct a model using sustainable materials that accurately depicts these features. The model must be labeled with planet names and sizes/orbits from the sun. Students will sketch designs, choose one to develop, and present their final model to the class, explaining their design choices and materials used.

Solar System Mission!

Introduction:
We have been learning about all the planets within our solar system and how they orbit around the sun. Its time to
put your
knowledge of the the relative size of the planets and their orbiting paths to the test!

Brief:
In groups of 3, your mission is to design and create a solar system model to display the relative size and orbiting
paths of the planets. You will need to research the size of the planets and their order from the sun. You will also
need to
think about what materials you are going to use and how you are going to structure your model.

Generating Designs: Project Specifications:

In your groups you will need to sketch at least three The solar system model must:

make sure everyone stays on task and participates in
the project.
