COVID19: THE DOMINO EFFECT TO THE SOCIETY

Subject: CONTEMPORARY WORLD
The world is facing a great alarming situation which paved its ways towards a global crisis, a
battle with the unseen enemy leading to death without any vaccine to be available at this point
in time. A virus that spreading human suffering, infecting the global economy and distorting the
lives of billions of people across the globe.

On December 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) was alarmed to a cluster of
pneumonia patients in Wuhan City Hubei Province of China, the epic centre of CORONA VIRUS.
A week later they confirmed that they identified a novel (new) corona (covid19) as the cause of
pneumonia. The first three (3) cases were recorded in the Philippines in January were all
confirmed travel history in Wuhan China. On March 5 2019, the first case of covid19 with no
travel history and was due to local transmission.
While everyone is at risk to be infected by the virus, the old ones with pre-existing condition
such diabetes, hypertension, heart and respiratory diseases or with compromised immune
system, including young children, people with HIV , as well as the front liners are the most
vulnerable. Wide spread community transmission has the high percentage to occur with the
crowded population among mobile communities, people living in poor densely populated urban
setting and any community with inadequate access to proper hygiene supply and with was
constrained with hygiene and sanitation practices and as well as nutrition services. In this kind
of scenario had overwhelmed the capacity of the government to obtain its due cost in
establishing health care facilities that can cater all possible patients and possible to those
infected by the virus particularly to those areas who has the high numbers of COVID19 and in
the densely populated communities.
According to the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) the pandemic was
having a disruptive impact to the economy and will negatively impact growth well beyond 2020,
movement restriction and the downturn of global economic activity will further limit household
incomes and add to job losses domestically and abroad. This disproportionalized the affected
poor families, especially to those who were dependent on the informal sectors. Aside from
anticipate slowdown of the economy, the COVID19 pandemic is also limiting the people to its
access to health, education, food and nutrition, water and sanitation, information,
communication and transport since the government implemented lockdowns in the central
Luzon and was being followed forth by the local governments. As per the United Nation is
concern this situation further heightening the vulnerability among the poorest of the poor
though no one is exempted during this pandemic. It exacerbate intimate partner violence,
violence against children, neglect as well as other form of violence.
In response in addressing the pandemic travel restrictions and community interventions, the
Philippine government conducted a contact tracing and was so implement travel ban covering
those of places/countries with much numbers of covid19. Philippine government as stated
above has conducted its precautionary measure as to go with the lockdown for developmental

purposes. The quarantine was consisted of the following measures such social distancing,
suspension of classes and some jobs, closure of the air and sea travel and establishing
checkpoints, many jobs were worked from home , temperature checking, tempory closure on
non-essential business establishment and prohibiting on mass gathering and non-essential
public events.
Those protocols has made the society quite panic, any form of transportation got filled with
passengers who tries to leave metro manila and go back to their originated provinces to find
scape and live a quite safer away from the virus. Another alarming was the said alleged out of
stock with some hygiene product such mask and alcohol that tend people to get into panic
buying, the situation was taken advantage by selling into exorbitant prices.
The government had almost done doing its precautionary measure but unfortunately it’s quite
impossible to flatten the curve since the number of covid19 gets higher and higher and worsen
the situation of the people. Though the enhanced community is practiced we cannot deny the
fact that there would be people who are abuse with their power like one of the alleged police
officials who said pursuit with a birthday party where they violated the heal as one act, another
is the senator Pimentel were also violate the protocol when he accompanied his wife in the
hospital. Is few of situation where we I could say that how come that our said beloved law
makers are the ones who violates the rules but gets so mad to those individuals in the
vulnerable sectors and got attacked, put behind bars and bail for a high amounts of money
which in fact addressed with a visible action toward a better social functioning and better
equilibrium. The flaws in distribution of social amelioration program where it said to be done in
a process and will be validated by a social worker representative but it does not follow, many
beneficiaries were not fit with the subsidy like single (TAMBAY) individuals. Ithe situation will be
fine if it was being process according to the protocol. The program was good but the process
was being made like it was a fiction and was not visible to the people. But what matters the
most is that leads family to be united and to spend quality time. The mother earth is healing
since the pollution in the environment was lessen. And people may also learn that we should
not take our life for granted and let’s make lives meaningful.
