The document provides a detailed lesson plan for a mathematics class discussing nets of solid figures. It includes objectives, subject matter, and learning activities such as a review, motivation, and application where students will make nets of solid figures out of cartolina. The lesson defines key terms like solid figures, planes, and nets and provides examples of common solid shapes and their corresponding nets.

A DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS 6

THIRD QUARTER

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the discussion, 80% of the students should be able to:
CS: Demonstrate understanding of solid figures.
PS: Construct and describe the different solid figures: cube, prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone,
and sphere.
LC: Identify the nets of the following space figures: cube, prism, pyramid, cylinder, cone,
and sphere using plane figures.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Nets of Solid Figures

III. LEARNING ACTIVITIES

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENT’S ACTIVITY

A. PRELIMINARY ACTIVITIES
1. DAILY ROUTINE
Good morning, class! Good morning, Teacher!

Let us all stand for our prayer.

In the name of the Father, and of the Amen.
Son, and of the Holy Spirit….

Are there any absentees today? There are no absentees today, Teacher.
That’s good.

Before you take your sit, please pick (students will pick up pieces of paper before
up the pieces of paper under your sitting down)
chair.
2. REVIEW/DRILLS
Our lesson last meeting is all about
solid figures.
What are solid figures? Solid figures are three-dimensional objects with
faces, vertices and edges.
Correct!

Now, as a review, I prepared a 10

item questions about solid figures.
Write your answers on a ¼ sheet of
paper. I will give you 5 minutes to
answer them.

Identify the following items.

_______1. It is a solid figure with two 1. Cylinder.
circular bases which are parallel and
congruent.
_______2. A polygon on which the 2. Base
figure rests.
_______3. These are commonly 3. Faces
known as sides.
_______4. A solid figure that has a 4. Cone
circular flat base on one end and has
one point where sides meet.
_______5. A special type of prism 5. Cube
with six congruent square faces.
_______6. A solid figure with five 6. Pyramid
faces, five vertices, and eight edges.
_______7. A solid figure wherein all 7. Sphere
points at its surface are equidistant
from a given point called the center.
_______8. The point where two or 8. Vertex
more faces meet.
_______9. A solid figure with two 9. Prism
parallel congruent bases which are
polygons.
_______10. This is formed when two 10. Edge
faces meet.

3. MOTIVATION
I have 5 pairs of printed flat figures
here. I will group you into five and I
will give each group a pair of printed
flat figures. Through these printed
materials, you will make a 3D object
but one of these printed materials will
not be a 3D object.

You need to analyze and think

carefully which one of these printed
materials will be made into a 3D
object or what we call the solid
figures. I will give you 5 minutes to
finish this activity.

Before you go to your respective

group, what are the rules when we are 1. Work quietly.
doing an activity? 2. Cooperate in the group activity.
Correct. Now, let’s start.

B. LESSON PROPER
1. PRESENTATION
Our lesson for today is about net/s of
a solid figure.
At the end of the discussion, you
should be able to demonstrate
understanding of solid figures,
construct and describe the different
solid figures and most importantly,
identify the nets of a solid figure.

Are you ready to listen? Yes, Teacher!

2. ABSTRACTION
Solid figures are three-dimensional
objects with width, height, and depth.
On our last meeting, we identified the
different solid figures and their
properties.

Did you know that we can make a

solid figure using a plane figure? This
is possible using a net.
By the way, who can still remember Plane figures are flat figures formed from the
what a plane figure is? Can you tell different shapes. A plane figure enclosed by
me the meaning of a plane figure? three of more line segments is called a
polygon. Plane figures can be seen in the
Very good! shapes of various things around.
Plane figures are the 2D versions of
the 3D objects or the solid figures.

Now, what is a net? A net is a two-dimensional shape that can be

folded to form a three-dimensional shape or a
Very good! solid figure.
A net is also a pattern made when the
surface of a three-dimensional shape
is laid out flat showing each face of
the solid figure.

Can you tell me the things we 1. Make sure that the solid and the net
consider to know if a net forms a have the same number of faces and that
solid? the shapes of the faces of the solid
match the shapes of the corresponding
faces in the net.
2. Visualize how the net is to be folded to
form the solid and make sure that all the
Very good! sides fit together properly.
Here are examples of nets of solid
figures.

A cube has six equal square faces.

How many faces does a cube have?
Correct!
The net of the cube must also have
the same number of faces as the
figure.
Therefore, the net of the cube look like
this.

There are 11 possible nets for a cube

in total, but that one is the most
common.

The next one is the pyramid.

How many faces does a square
It has four faces; therefore the net of the
pyramid have?
pyramid should also have four faces and has
the same shape.
Correct!
How does the net of a square pyramid
Net of a Square Pyramid
should look like?

Correct!

The next is the prism.

A triangular prism has 5 faces, so it
should also have 5 nets.

Yes, Teacher.
Can you follow?

Okay, let’s proceed to cylinder.

A cylinder has one face and two
circular bases.

How do the nets of a cylinder should

Since it has

one face
and two
circular bases, it should have one rectangle
and two circles at the end the rectangle.
Correct!

Second to the last is the cone.

What is a cone?

Very good!
This is what the nets of the cone A cone is a solid figure that has a circulatory
would look like. flat base and one face.

The last object is a sphere.

It is a little bit hard to make the nets of
the sphere because of its solid round
figure.
How does the net of a sphere look
like?

The net of the sphere has two circles on both

end and has circular cuts on the surface.

Very good!

3. APPLICATION
In this activity, you will make the net of
each solid figure. Use cartolina to
trace or draw the nets of solid figures.
The dotted lines will be folded inside
the solid figures. Form the solid figure
using scotch or masking tape.

You will be divided into 4 groups,

which was your group last meeting.
I will give you 15 minutes to finish this
activity.

Again, what are our rules when doing

an activity?
Let’s start!

1. Work quietly.
2. Cooperate in the group activity.
1. Make sure that the solid and the net
have the same number of faces and that
the shapes of the faces of the solid
match the shapes of the corresponding

To summarize what we have 2. Visualize how the net is to be folded to

that can be folded to form the figure.

What are the two things we determine

whether a net forms a solid?

Very good!

Draw the net of a cube.

Very good!

How about the pyramid?

Excellent!

The net of a prism?

The net of the cylinder?

How about cone? Can you draw the

net of the cone?

Excellent!

Lastly, the net of a sphere.
