2) Why does a profession like teaching require long years of initial professional
education and continuing professional development after the long, arduous
initial professional development?
Answer:
Teaching profession requires long years of initial professional education and
continuing professional
development after long arduous initial professional development for the
following reasons:
1) Aspiring teachers would acquire an adequate knowledge and skills that they
can apply in their teaching profession during their initial profession. It is a
laboratory for them to enhance their skills, capabilities, and unlock their
potentials.
2) After taking the Licensure Examination, teachers still continue to study for
professional development to ensure and secure oneself to be competent in
his/her profession. Due to the rise of technology, things change very fast and
new teaching methods develop.
3) Lastly, It’s very important to reflect more to your own craft. One must
challenge himself more to get better at what he does. In teaching, there is no
room for mediocrity. As soon as there's life, learning won't stop.
3) Explain the elements or characteristics of the word PROFESSION by an
acrostic.
P-assionate
R-esourceful
O-verflowing
F-ulfillment
E-agerness
S-incere
S-uccessful

O-pportunity
N-oble
4) Here is a line from Bernard Shaw’s play: Man and Superman: Those who
can, do. Those who can’t, teach.
People who are able to do something well can do that thing for a living, while
people who are not able to do anything that well make a living by teaching.
Having learned the elements of a profession, do you agree with Bernard Shaw?

Answer:
Base on my personal opinion, I don’t believe that this statement is universally
true. I know a lot of people who are very successful with their own
professions/fields. Since I am a Music graduate, I’m going to talk about two
examples in the field of music relating to the quote. First example is my piano
professor. He was an international piano performer, which means, he has all
the abilities to do his craft very well, but still, he chose to teach because there
is a passion that inspires and pushes him to teach. I can say that he’s great
teacher because he uses his skills and experiences and translates these on
teaching his students. On the other hand, I also know somebody who
graduated a Music course but failed several times on some major subjects, but
now, she is an international performer. Therefore, basing on my previous
observations, I can say that I disagree with this statement.

5) Does the teaching profession fulfill all the elements of a profession?

Yes, the teaching profession can fulfill all the elements of a profession. The
following are the reasons:
First, the teacher must study a four-year course and that fulfills the Initial
professional education which is the 1st element. Second, Accreditation
assures that teachers would perform effectively. Third, Licensing is mandatory
for teachers. If one wouldn’t pass the LET(Licensure Examination for Teacher),
he/she would not be considered as a professional teacher. Fourth, Teachers
are required for Professional Development to ensure oneself to be competent
in his/her profession. Fifth, Professionals must also involve in such
organizations to see themselves as a part of the community, this fulfill to
Professional Society. And lastly, All teachers must respect and fulfill the Code
of Ethics. One main purpose of this is to be fair and to have a good
relationship with the learners. Therefore, I can say that Teaching profession is
outstandingly considered as a profession for it fulfills all the elements of a
profession.
6) Is professionalism synonymous to professional?
A person who is paid for getting involved in a particular profession in order to
earn a living as well as to satisfy the laws of that profession can be understood
as a Professional, while Professionalism covers comprehensively all areas of
practice of a particular profession. It requires skills and responsibilities
involved in engineering profession. In other words, Professional is a person or
the occupation itself, while, professionalism is an action prioritizing your duties
against all other aspects, hindrance or emotions thereafter. Therefore,
Profession and Professionalism are two different words.
