Introduction

This booklet you will learn about Matrices and

transformation. It gives you definition, examples and the
order. Matrix algebra has several uses. On importance of
matrix is that it enables us to handle a large system of
equations.
Matrices
What is a matrix?
A matrix deal with the relations of the sides and angles of triangles and with the relevant functions of
any angles.

Order of a matrix.

Types of matrices
Column matrix: is a matrix that only has one column.

EXAMPLES: 1. [4 6] is a column matrix.

The order of the above matrix is 2 × 1

2. [7 5 9] is a column matrix.
The order of the above matrix is 3 ×1

Null matrix: Is all elements that are equal zero.

EXAMPLE:0= [0 0 0 0]

.
Diagonal matrix: nonzero elements only in the diagonal running from the upper left to the lower
right.

EXAMPLE: B=[3 0 0]
[0 8 0]
[0 0 2]

Square Matrix: a matrix with an equal number of rows and columns.

EXAMPLE: A= [2 1]
[6 5]

Unit Matrix: is a diagonal matrix whose elements in the diagonal are all ones.

EXAMPLE: T= [1 0 0]
[0 1 0]
[0 0 1]
Matrix addition and subtraction
Matrix multiplication
Inverse of a 2×2 matrix

Translation
What is translation?
Translation is a term used in geometry to describe a function that moves an object a certain distance.
The object is not altered in any other way. It is not rotated, reflected or re-sized.

What does the column matrix T=( ) do?

Formula of translation:
To translate the point P(x, y)P(x, y) , aa units right and bb units up, use P′(x+a, y+b)P'(x+a, y+b).
To translate the point P(x, y)P(x, y), aa units left and bb units down, use P′(x−a, y−b)P'(x−a, y−b).
Inverse translation
What is inverse translation?

Formula of inverse translation:

Conclusion

I hope that this booklet help you understand what is matrices

and transformation. This can help you with your works an
improve MATH. This is a very useful information on matrices
and transformation.
