Each question carries twenty (25) marks. Please indicate the number of the questions answered in the front of the answer book ‘Question One Discuss the concepts “Social Ethics”, “Social Morality” and spend time on what provides “Social Ethics’ with a Christian ethos as well as its relevance for today By so doing you are required to consider ‘+ the Biblical (Old Testament and New Testament) foundation to Chnstian Social Ethics, ‘+ the social moral problems that the people in Biblical times had to content with and how the Prophets, Jesus, Paul and the Apostles dealt with those issues, ‘the relevance of Social Ethics and Social Morality for us today and how it can support Us in finding solutions to contemporary moral problems Question Two Consider how the thinking of the Church developed in tts relationship to the Governing Authonties (the State) by refernng to Catholic Social Doctnne, the Social Thought of the Reformers, and the Social teachings of the Church Fathers By so doing you have to refer to + the Church Fathers attitude towards Governing authonties ‘the Reformers views on secular government ‘+ the Catholic teachings on state and the common good Chiically discuss the relevance of these teachings to the current government authonttes of your respective country Question Three By drawing on your knowledge of Ecumenical Social Thought discuss the distinctive roles of the Church and State by considering their views in relation to human nghts, racism and sexism and how relevant ecumenical solutions are for your context today Pay special attention to the views and resolutions of the ecumenical conferences Question four Critically consider the debates surrounding Social Ethics regarding its interdisciplinary nature By so doing cntically compare the contnbutions and approaches of the various scholars to the debate such as Walter Muelder, Ralph Potter, Gibson Winter, Paul Deats and others Point out the weaknesses and strengths contained in the arguments of these leading figures Your personal views and opinions regarding the debate would add value to the discussion CMM3703 OCT/NOV 2017 Question Five Discuss the idea of Afncan Ethics and the relevance thereof on the Afncan Continent by considering the following areas * African Ubuntu values and ethics in relation to public governance, + African values and ethics in connection with environmental concerns, + African values and ethics in relation to civil and professional corruption in society, government, economics and the work place, * African values and moral transformation OR Define and descnbe botho/Ubuntu as the crux of African ethics and spirituality © UNISA 2017,
