You are an engineering apprentice working for sheet metal


fabrication company.
Vocational Scenario or You have been asked by your supervisor to help plan out an
Context operation that is going to be given to a group of applicants for a new
intake of apprentices by carrying out a series of workshop tasks to
highlight the applicant's abilities

Task 1 1 a) Material handling is a process that includes the movement,


storage, protection and control of the material. List the ten
principles of material handling. Also, what are the three main
safety features of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and
explain the employee’s responsibility about using PPE?
b) Identify the seven groups of hazardous substance warning signs

c) There is 2m flat length of sheet metal stored in the


workshop. You have a source of information as below
(engineering drawing) that tells you what you should do. During
your work, you will be observed by your tutor.

- Fetch the 2m length sheet metal and carry it on a safe manner
-Cut off a piece of 105mm length×60mm width
-Produce a 8mm hole in the sheet metal
- Chamfer the upper left corner
-Fabricate the 90 degree bend in the sheet metal
