ZXA10 C300&C320 Product Description
Figure 2-15 shows the service forwarding channels.
Figure 2-15 Service Forwarding Channels
The fast forwarding channel is from the interface card, Ethernet switch on the switching
and control card, to the 4.5 U uplink card.
In upstream direction, GEM frames are decapsulated from to Ethernet frames, after
Ethernet switch on the switching and control card, and then sent to the 4.5U uplink
interface.
In downstream direction, Ethernet frames are switched to interface cards by
switching and control card, sent to GEM port according to service mapping rules,
and then encapsulated to GEM frams.
TDM services are encapsulated on the ONU or CES cards using PWE3 technology,
and switched to uplink port by the switching and control card.
The slow forwarding channel refers to the protocol packets processing on CPUs. The
packets can be either terminated on CPUs, or sent back to the forwarding channel by
CPUs. The common processing includes adding subscriber line ID, DHCP snooping,
ARP inspection, IGMP snooping, and Ethernet OAM.

services including voice, video, and the Internet service.
5.5 FTTM Networking Application
In mobile 3G/LTE era, mobile base stations include traditional macro base stations and
micro base stations. LTE micro-stations, such as IPCO/enterprise-level Femtocell,
home-level Femtocell, are deployed to enhance subscriber capacity and bandwidth and
implement extensive service coverage.
Operators use PTN/IP RAN to connect LTE macro base stations. The networks covers
the location of existing 2G/3G macro base stations, and are extended to satisfy the high
density requirement of LTE. Small cell base stations require flexible carrier for cost and
construction consideration.
FTTM provides low cost and flexible mobile backhaul solution to operators by combining
traditional mobile backhaul to wirelilne access networks using the FTTx networks. FTTM
is a complement for those stations not covered by PTN/IPRAN. Many operators are
considering to use the FTTM solution based on PON technology to bear smallcells.
FTTM bearing macro cell backhaul solution
FTTM macro cell bearing includes E1/T1 bearing of 2G base stations and Ethernet
base station bearing of 3G/LTE, see Figure 5-5.

Figure 5-5 FTTM Bearing Macro Cell Backhaul Networking Diagram
Scenario 1: FTTM based on PON uses CES technology to terminate E1/T1
service on the OLT, and uses E1/STM-X interface to uplink to the exiting
SDH/MSTP network. The CES mobile backhaul service is encapsulated using
PWE3 over MEF.
Scenario 2: For the backhaul service of 2G E1/T1, a gateway device
(Aggregation GW) is required on the peer end of the PSN to connect BSC
using E1/T1 interfaces. The CES mobile backhaul service between the ONU
and OLT is encapsulated using static PW/LSP. The CES mobile backhaul
service between the OLT and Aggr GW is encapsulated using dynamic
PW/LSP. The OLT supports TDM-relay function to convert static labels to
dynamic labels of TDM services.
Scenario 3: For the Ethernet backhaul service of 3G/LTE, FTTM provides
xPON ONU or FE/GE P2P interfaces to connect the base stations. The OLT is
connected to the mobile core network via the PSN such as PTN/IPRAN. The
FTTM network supports Ethernet transparent transmission of backhaul service,
as well as the backhaul service conection to PSN network in MPLS L2VPN
mode.

access gateway (AG/AC/BRAS), 3GPP core network NE, NMS iAMS. Figure 5-6
shows the FTTM bearing smallcell backhaul solution.
Figure 5-6 FTTM Bearingsmallcell Backhaul Networking Diagram
The typical application of smallcells includes public area, enterprise, or home. The small
cell can be indoor device or outdoor device. The flexible FTTx networking base on PON
satisfies smallcell bearing of different applications.
According to requirements of different network coverage applications, smallcell base
stations can choose proper PON SFU or MDU to access the network.
According to the networking, the wireline OLT can be uplinked to the convergence ring
equipment of PTN/IPRAN or SR equipment of bearing network. The FTTM OLT provides
L2 Ethernet and L2VPN connection to uplink equipment. In another application, the OLT
keeps current connection on bearing network, and is connected to the mobile core
network via transportation network, the service model of mobile backhaul is the same as
before, connected to BRAS/SR device using L2.
The metropolitanarea core device is the GPS clock input node, provides synchronization
signal to mobile backhaul using synchronous Ethernet and 1588v2. In case the upper

layer devices do not support the delivery of time/clock, the OLT supports interface for
connecting an external clock or time source to satisfy the synchronization requirement.
5.6 FTTdp Networking Application
With the development of FTTH technology, ISPs are able to provide GE bandwidth to the
building and FE bandwidth to the home. Because the cost of FTTH application is
relatively high, ISPs begin to consider the cost effective application FTTdp, which enable
ISPs to deploy optical nodes more close to the subscribers. The FTTdp application
supports to use media such as twisted pair, Ethernet cable, coaxial cable, or power
cables to replace the optical fibers, and technologies such as VDSL, LAN, EOC, PLC,
and G.fast.
Compared with FTTB, the access devices DPUs in FTTdp application are more close to
subscriber terminals, usually less than 200 m. DPUs can be flexibly deployed in outdoor
area, eaves, basements, or inlets. DPUs are powered by the subscriber terminals and
require no configuration. .
FTTdp application is a complementary for FTTH application. FTTdp satisfies the OAM
requirements of FTTH and provides FE bandwidth to the home. In the early deployment
of FTTdp, subscriber terminals such as DSL modems and LAN modems can be reused.
Figure 5-7 shows the FTTdp networking diagram.

Supports TR069 + OMCI management, consistent with FTTH.
The current network satisfies the reverse power supply requirement of FTTdp.
In the single port DPU and single user scenario, the reverse power supply module
PSE supports 8 W power supply for up to 200 m copper cable.
In multiple port DPU scenario, the PSE decreases the power supply difference
between users to 5% by current equalization and power management. By
monitoring online status, the NMS controls the power supply switch of the PSE to
ensure the fair power supply.
5.7 FTTCable Networking Application
Cable TV service providers provides FTTCable solution to deploy DOCSIS technology in
FTTx applications. The FTTCable solution is a combination of xPON and DOCSIS EoC
(Ethernet over Coax) technologies.

7 Reliability Design
7.1 Hardware Reliability
Distributed Design
The ZXA10 C300/C320 uses distributed hardware architecture, implements distributed
process by modulized design of functions. Function modules include switching and
control module, service card module and uplink card module. Functions of modules are
ZTE Confidential & Proprietary 95
ZXA10 C300&C320 Product Description
independent and controlled by different processors. The fault of one processor does not
affect the running of the whole system.
Redundancy Design
The ZXA10 C300/C320 uses reliable design on key hardware components, including
active/backup protection, load sharing, hardware backup, which ensure reliability of the
hardware system.
Card active/standby protection
Key components use multiple processors redundant technology. The switching and
control cards , power cards, and uplink cards adopt active and backup mechanism.
In proper status, the active components run, and the backup components keep
synchronization with the active one. Once an active component is faulty, the backup
component takes over the role of the active one to ensure the uninterrupted service.
Load sharing
The switching and control cards support load sharing. In normal condition, both
switching and control cards are responsible for system control and service
processing. When one card is faulty, the other card performs system control and
service processing independently. Only the switching capacity is affected, the
services are not interrupted.
Physical backup
The ZXA10 C300 supports enhanced fan box (two lines, 4-5 fans in each line) and
ensures that two fans run for the ventilation of each card. In case of any fan is faulty,
there is sufficient ventilation for each card.
7.2 Software Reliability
Fault Tolerant Ability
96 ZTE Confidential & Proprietary
ZXA10 C300&C320 Product Description
The ZXA10 C300/C320 supports periodical detection on software resources, task
monitoring, storage protection, data check, and operation logs to prevent system from
the impact of software faults and enhance the fault-tolerant ability of the software system.
Fault Monitoring and Processing
The ZXA10 C300/C320 supports automatic detection and diagnosis on sytem hardware
and software. The faulty hardware is automatically isolated, swapped, reset, or reloaded.
Hot Patch
When the equipment is running, the software may need error correct ion for bugs or
adaptation to add new function to satisfy service requirement. The conventional solution
is to shut down the equipment and upgrade the software version.
The ZXA10 C300/C320supports hot patch for switching and control card software, which
means the version of switching and control card can be online upgraded without
interrupting the service.
7.3 Data Reliability
The ZXA10 C300/C320 supports strict data protection mechanism.
Supports real-time data synchronization and backup between the active and
backup modules. When the active module is faulty, the backup module becomes
the active module instantly, and the program and data takes effect at once.
Supports automatic backup of active module database to the active module. When
the active module and backup module switches, the backup module can be reset
quickly.
7.4 Networking Reliability
