Research Assignment 2

Distance education has both advantages and disadvantages. Key advantages include flexible access to coursework, cost savings from not commuting, and the ability to learn at one's own pace. However, distance education also has disadvantages like lack of in-person interaction, increased time demands on teachers, and the need for computer skills and reliable Internet access. As technology advances, online education is growing rapidly and allowing more working professionals and students to learn remotely. While online classes require self-discipline, they also provide greater flexibility and opportunities to advance one's career or study new topics.

What does the research say about advantages and disadvantages of distance education?

Traditionally the school has been the place where teachers and pupils meet each other. It has

been the setting where the institutional teaching/learning process takes place. However, various

forms of computer-mediated communication are adding interesting new dimensions to regular

school learning. The Internet offers such advantages as flexible access and new ways of

communicating and assessing for students and teachers

Recalling era of decade behind online degree and online education was not considered the same

way as physically attending a 4-year program. With the growing technology and gadgets

produced by those big companies like Apple, Samsung, etc. are helping the growth of online

education worldwide. with all those physical obstacles being removed a new revolution has

begun for online education. New entrance has opened for work force, business is more prepared

than ever before for doing online and to do well.

Attached is the data from random search will help you agreeable with the demand for online

education.

In 2019, nearly half of the world was on online education.

In 2014, it was 18.7 million students will take at least one online class.

In 2013, more than 6 million of students took at least one online course.

1
Advantages

On arrive of pandemic use of internet in education have received extensive attention. advantages

affect the students and teacher in different ways. student in the person enrolled in course and

teacher is in charge of teaching the lesson. The teacher will send out materials, e-mail’s, etc.,

instructing students of what they need to be doing. The discussion that follows lists some of the

Several advantages for using the Internet have been found. One significant advantage is that the

virtual classroom can help with instructor organization. Areas for course documents,

assignments, class notes and other information can be readily categorized. The creation of a

“virtual notebook” can make locating documents easier for both instructor and student. Having

this information on the Internet can provide faculty with a method for quickly updating and

revising course content

A second educational advantage lies in the intellectual and social partnership created by

technology of the virtual classroom. Pupils using the equipment engaged additional social skills

when they spontaneously took leadership roles in relation to other pupils. The technology used

increased group cohesion and mutual support, especially in the remote classroom. Its suitability

for small-group work and its interactive made both contributed to the development of skills using

information and communication technologies. The virtual classroom also developed a range of

communication and social skills that allowed the pupils to overcome their relative isolation by

communicating with pupils in similar situations. Cost is also considered to be an advantage.

Students save money by not having to commute to class thus saving time, gasoline, childcare and

travel expenses. Another advantage of the virtual classroom is time. Students who are motivated

and/or quick learners may be permitted to move ahead at a faster rate than in a normal in-class

2
setting. Communication is considered a benefit because most contact with instructors will be

done via email, messages can be sent at any time day or night. To the teacher the fact of

everything being digital is an advantage. Since all work is sent over e-mail, instructions can deal

with students work in an easy manner.

Disadvantages

Distance learning on the Internet has its advantages however unfortunately it also has some

disadvantages. One of the most persistent problems has been the factor of time. Teachers have

expressed their disgust about having too much demand on their time.

Another time related issue deals with training. Training is obligatory especially to teachers and

students who are not comfortable with computers or the Internet.

Internet students are put at a disadvantage when it comes to networking and forming new

relationships. lack of face-to-face interactions with other peers and the instructor can be a

disadvantage for socio emotional skills development.

students and teachers adapting and attending non-online course to online courses can be arduous

or challenging.

Students can create problems themselves by signing up for online classes without having the

basics such as an email address or an account with an Internet Service.

Online students can work from any part of the worlds. comfortable learning environment, we can

do the assignment or the online learning everywhere we want, and we don't have to sit in a

proper way, we can relax while laying down on our bed or we can go to the cafe, restaurant,

library etc. Now due to the COVID19 we must do the online learning at home, and we can't go

3
anywhere we want. It is not like I didn't agree with learning in comfortable environment but if

we study at school or college in general it would be more fun and exciting because we can meet

a lot of friends and new people besides, there is a teacher or lecturer present at all times to

answer the student's questions and because the true form of learning is where there is

involvement of people sharing and receiving knowledge without delay.

The Internet also has some disadvantages such as reliance of information service providers,

viruses and low speed of connections. However, for the teacher, creating Internet resources that

are stimulating, appealing, easy to use and educationally sound is time consuming.

Reflection

you have taken face-to-face classes all your life, being a little apprehensive at the beginning is

normal, even if you are tech-savvy. Definitely agree for online classes.

However, taking an online course, as opposed to a face-to-face class, definitely has its perks.

Career advancement and hobbies

Studying online gives you more flexibility. You can work and fit your work schedule (and your

hobbies) around your coursework more easily.

Flexible schedule and environment

By studying online, you choose your own learning environment that works best for your needs.

4
Lower costs and debts

Studying online means that you pay the tuition fee, possibly book supplies, an online application

fee, and fewer other items.

Self-discipline and responsibility

It is true that studying online requires self-motivation and time management, because you will

spend a lot of time on your own.

More choice of course topics

Let us face it, when thinking about what to study, besides for interest and career

opportunities, where to study is also a deciding factor. This may limit the choice of subjects or

courses to take. Studying online at your own convenience allows you no longer worry about

commute.

Being a full-time teacher for a class initially it was hard and mind blowing for me to lean and

train myself in order to present it to class and teach them throughout the year, but it was not

unachievable. The main argument for technology in the classroom is that emerging students

should be able to apply classroom concepts to daily life, and a large part of daily life revolves

around technology.

Students today are apt at using technology, and tools such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets

are already second nature to them. Taking technology out of the learning equation would be

removing an integral part of the students’ abilities.

Every single day begins with Zoom calls followed with skyward attendance, schoology exit

tickets checking, math lessons on HMH, science lessons on stemscopes, social studies on HMH.

5
Well done students get digital stickers. For fun we have cahoots games, nitro type, prodigy

games. quizzes for testing and there ends our day and begins again the next day same way for

more fun.

Likewise, even if the student is not already technology-savvy, that’s even more of a reason to

embrace the skill. Understanding technology is becoming more and more important in the

workplace and other areas; competing with peers in the 21st-century simply necessitates the need

for technological finesse. But digital innovations can be a source of challenges for schools as

well.

It does not take a rocket scientist to see that online education is going to gain in popularity in

years to come. It will be interesting to see what happens to the traditional educational institution

as earning degrees online becomes more of the everyday norm.
