 Kids meet in the centre before we start anything

 Briefly go over the plan for the day
 After this, all the kids will grab a stick and a ball/puck
Introduction
 Have them play a quick game of British bulldog to warm up, will pick a bull dog to start.
5-10 minutes  Same rules as last time – the green lines are the safe zone and the bull dog attempts to
steal the other people’s balls to get them out!
 British bulldog – rules below
Body  Gather the kids back to the middle
15 minutes  “Today we will be getting into some actual hockey games”. Explain that the gym will be
divided into 2 halves
 Teams have been pre-made
 Throw out a reminder that hockey is a TEAM sport. Involve all of your team mates
 **If necessary, implement a 3 touch rule, meaning that at least 3 different people must
touch the ball before the team can score a goal (3 rd person to touch it can shoot)
 May have to have a conversation about people playing goal and safety. A couple kids
can really rip the ball/puck so there will be a rule in place to keep shots below the knee

 Will be yelling out switch periodically from time to time (~4- 5 minutes). During this
time, there will be a few kids who are off to catch their breath. Ensure that the kids are
fairly alternating between who is switching off/ staying on. GOALIES MUST SWITCH
TOO!!!
 For the Kids that are off catching their breath, their jobs will be to watch the game and
think about possible strategies for their next shift. I will then pick people at random
after (popsicle stick method) to tell me strategies they observed/came up with. This is
to ensure engagement – Hockey is a game of skill no doubt, but strategy can make a
big difference between who wins and who loses****

 Have the kids line up to put the sticks balls away.

Closure
 Sanitize the sticks
5 minutes  After they have put those away, they will line up to leave the gym to go back to class.

Differentiation:
Faith seemed a little overwhelmed with British bulldog during the last lesson so for this time I’ll
ask her if she would like to be my helper during the game(s). This would entail her helping
ensure that people are in the safe zone for British bulldog. For the games, I would ask if she
want to play or if she wants to help me keep score 😊

Activity: British Bulldog

Each student will have their stick and a ball. They are to line up on one side of the gym. In the
middle will be either myself, a couple of students, or both. None of the individuals in the middle
will have balls the goal of the game is simple: the students in a line will have to cross to the
other side of the gym during a “round”. Each “round” starts with the people in the middle
calling out “British bulldog”. This signals the students on the line to start moving to the other
side of the gym. The players in the middle will then try to steal the balls of the other players. If
they successfully steal the other players ball, that player is out, and joins the other people in
the middle that are trying to steal balls. However, if a player reaches the other side of the gym
into the “safe zone” (Marked by a line) – the player is safe for the round and waits patiently in
the safe zone until the start of the next round. The game continues until everyone has their
balls stolen.
Reflection:

Areas of Strength

 Having the kids put their sticks down while I was talking was an on the fly adjustment, but it
was very effective. Removed a distraction and allowed them to focus
 Quick fist to five review of the activity was a good way to wrap and provided some
formative feedback on the activity by the kids themselves
 Closure of the lesson and transition into the next activity was excellent as a result

Areas of Growth
 Next time, account for the time required to get the equipment outside of the building
 Ensure that the plying area is safe
