Learning Task in Mathematics 4 Week 9

This document provides learning tasks on performing a series of mathematical operations using the order of operations (MDAS). It includes: 1. An introduction stating the lesson is on applying MDAS correctly to solve multi-step problems. 2. Links to videos explaining what MDAS stands for and the two rules for performing a series of operations. 3. Practice problems applying MDAS to solve expressions. 4. Questions for students to consider about helping a classmate understand applying MDAS. 5. A true/false quiz on MDAS rules. 6. Questions about the MDAS method and an example of its real-life application.

LEARNING TASK IN MATHEMATICS 4

WEEK 9

Hello! How are you? Last week, you learned about solving multi-step routine and non-routine
problems involving division and any other operations, which is somewhat related to our lesson
this week because you are going to perform a series of two or more operations applying
Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction (MDAS) correctly.

Do you obey rules at home? How about in the school? Why is it important to follow rules? I am
expecting you to do your best in doing all the activities and apply what you will learn in your
life. Here we go!
Watch to Learn!URL
The system marks this item complete according to conditions: Watch to Learn!
At this moment, you are going to watch a video on how to perform a series of two or more
operations applying Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subtraction (MDAS) correctly. Here, you
will learn the two rules to perform MDAS.
While watching, please be aware of the following guide questions:
1. What does MDAS stands for?
2. What are the rules to perform a series of operations?

Learning Task 9.2 (Required)
Solve the following.
1. 2X6÷4=
2. 9-7+3=
3. 18-12÷2=
4. 5x4-16÷8=
5. 18-12÷6+7=
Learning Task 9.3 Forum (REQUIRED)
Answer the following.
Your seatmate was absent because he got sick. When he went back to school, you told him
that you have an assignment. This is shown below.

a) 2x9÷3=

b) 27÷3x4-1+10=

c) 16-12÷6+8=

Do you think your classmate can answer it? Why?

What would you do to help him?

What are the answers to the given expressions?

What did you do first?

What is the next step to do?

Learning Task No.9.5

Answer the following with True or False.
1.The MDAS stands for the three basic operations
2. To perform a series of operations, the MDAS rule must be followed.
3. Multiply or divide first in the order as they come from right to left.
4. Add or subtract in the order as they come from left to right.
5. From the expression 35-6x3, we should multiply first.

Learning Task No. 9.6

Answer the following.
What are the two rules in performing the MDAS method?
What will happen if we will not follow the rules in performing MDAS?

Can you tell an example of a real-life situation where we can apply the order of operations?
