Performance Testing Interview Questions:

You should know following things:

 Scripting, execution, analysis or monitoring and reporting. Always prefer to learn at least
one licensed tool like load runner and at least one freeware like Jmeter. Some
monitoring tools like PerFmon, dynatrace etc.
 You should have knowledge of more tools it would add more values to your resume.
Don't try to switch in 2 years, wait for some time and switch after completion of 3 years
you will get good hike.
 Try to learn Jenkins for continuous integration. Please don't run after money try to gain
as much knowledge you can.

Some important topics for interview:

1. Parameterization
2. Correlation
3. Rendezvou point
4. Think time pacing calculation (little's law)
5. Analysis tools or monitoring tools
6. Programming logics.
7. Basics of algorithms searching and sorting but it's not madatory.
8. For Jmeter you must have knowledge of all the samplers, preprocessors,
postprocessors, listeners etc.
9. Difference between think time, response time and pacing.
10. Sometime they will ask if you will be given a application how will you chose
protocol for that in load runner?
11. End to end performance testing process
12. You should know the changes in recent version of the performance testing tools
13. If interviewers would not have performance testing background then they will ask
typical programming language questions.

So, be prepared with data base concepts, oops concepts, algorithms if you have mentioned it in
resume. If you won't mention any programming skills in resume then for sure they will consider
you last. Because all the resume they would get must be having some programming experience
or knowledge.

Hope I have answered your query.

All the best!!!

 To be honest, there is no such position called Performance Testing Lead. Because the
size of the performance testing team is always small in most of the companies. So you
will be expected to do testing activities as well.
 So far I've attended interviews with most of the major IT companies (CTS, TCS, HCL,
Mindtree, IBM, DELL and L&T).
 The depth of questions depend on the urgency of resource requirement and the
number of people appear for the walk-in.

Below are the key areas that recruiter look into:

1. Projects that you've handled (Should be an individual contributor, as well as a team player)
2. Your technical skills & Technologies that you've used.

( Even if you are a lead. Management skills are not enough. Read the job description properly
and prepare based on the technologies mentioned in the JD)

3. Notice period (Most of the times you would be asked to join with-in 30 days)
4. Salary (If it is service based, then upto 40% hike they are happy)

Let's come to the questions:

1. Tell me about yourself - Golden question

Variations: Briefly explain about your education & career experiences.
Explain about the projects you've handled so far.

2. Correlating a dynamic value when the boundaries are also dynamic.

3. Difference between Pacing & Think-time.

4. Important performance testing matrices.

5. Bottlenecks that you've found so far (Customer benefits should be there)
6. Regular expression in LR.

7. Manual & Automatic correlations in LR

8. Scripting on Flex, Oracle NCA, Citrix protocols
9. Monitoring tools and metrics.
10. Basic questions from other Technologies like Jenkins (If in case, project team wants to
integrate LR scripts to Jenkins), Macros, SQL and core-Java (Tools creation for data preparation
& Management)

Other than this having knowledge on end-to-end project life cycle ( Project Start-up, Estimation,
Test strategy, Test plan, Test design, execution, defect tracking and reporting) is expected.

Hi,

Based on my experience following are few common (or basic) questions that can be asked by
interviewer related to JMeter tool:

1. What are the technologies/protocols supported by this tool?

2. How can we pass different test data in JMeter?
3. How to handle correlation in JMeter?
4. What are regular expressions?
5. What is the need of Timers?
6. How can distributed testing be achieved in JMeter?
7. What kind of reporting does this tool provides?
8. How can we minimize the resource utilization in JMeter during test execution?
9. How this tool is different from other load testing tools?

Additionally, the companies which are providing software testing services can ask about
performance testing & monitoring concepts in order to understand the level of knowledge the
person has in the field of Performance/Load testing.
