Please brief about pipeline transportation in Malaysia. Please also state your opinion about
the pipeline transportation in Malaysia.
Pipeline transportation is a method of transportation which involves movement of solid,
liquid or gaseous products over long distances through pipelines. This mode of transportation is
mostly used for transport of crude and refined petroleum products such as oil and natural gas.
Pipeline transportation also is a long pipe with large diameter, moving products such as natural
gas and petroleum between cities and countries. It is owned by shippers or operating companies.
Malaysia is the world’s third-largest exporter of liquefied natural gas, the second-largest
oil and natural gas producer in Southeast Asia, and strategically located amid important routes
for seaborne energy trade. The lengths and the types of pipelines for transporting products like
natural gas, crude oil, or petroleum products are 354 km for condensate, 6439 km for gas, 155
km for liquid petroleum gas, 1937 km for oil, 43 km for oil/gas/water, 114 km for refined
products, and 26 km for water. The example of the pipeline companies in Malaysia such as
PlugCo. was distributed in Miri, Malaysia, ADSI Industries Sdn. Bhd. which is located at
Ampang, just outside The City of Kuala Lumpur, Solmax in Pelabuhan Klang, Malaysia, and so
on.
In addition, the pipeline for multiple oil products in Malaysia also is a high-tech batching
system that transports several oil products via a single pipeline. This pipeline is constructed to
transport jet fuel (Jet A-1), diesel oil, regular gasoline and premium gasoline produced by
Petronas Melaka Refinery, Shell Port Dickson Refinery and Esso Port Dickson Refinery to Kuala
Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Klang Valley Distribution Terminal (KVDT). There
is a switching station at the branch point of the pipeline to KLIA and KVDT to transport the
required volumes of each oil product. Pipeline operation is totally controlled and monitored by a
computerized system called the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) System.
In my opinion, I think that pipeline transportation is the most economical way to
transport large quantities of oil or natural gas over land. This is because they have the lower cost
per unit and higher capacity compared to railroad. Pipeline transportation can also increase the
delivery dependability, unaffected by weather conditions, rarely have mechanical failures. The
pipeline transportation also can promote cooperation between the two countries which is
transport the water from Malaysia to Singapore. Therefore, the pipeline transportation in
Malaysia can increase our country’s economic and development in the future.
