Embellishment of a cadenza composta

Cadenza semplice (literally 'simple', 'easy' cadence).


The upper voices could be exchanged. The melodic
patterns (3-)2-1 (or 3-2-3) and 1-7-1 are always called
tenor and soprano cadence, regardless the actual voice
that sings one of these patterns.

Cadenza composta (literally 'compound' cadence). A


suspension is always added above n in the bass. The
most typical note to suspend is the leading tone. The
result is a 4-3 suspension against the bass.
