All the test are run from the iRMX operating system prompt. To get this either press the Control and C keys when the following line is seen: go <:Cl: or if SoundStation/Sabre is running select (RESTART} from the console, After the tests have been completed the system can be restarted by typing, go [enter] SoundStation/Sabre will then reboot. Testing Memory on ASC Cards The adamtst program is a general purpose test program and is used to test the DRAM memory on the ASC cards. To start a memory test: adamtst bo=m bl=n pause=p [enter] bo=m ASC board number. 1, 2, 3, or 4 on SoundStation, 1, 3 on Sabre. bi=m Blocks tested on the card. 13 on Soundstation, 28 on Sabre. pause=p Pause between write and readback. 200 is 2 seconds. Checking the Integretary of System Software The script program allow the user to check that the system software has not been corrupted. It checks the contents of all system files to verify their integretary. To check the software type: script [enter] After the program has run it will show the number of corrupted files, if any. Verify the Serial Number of the System To check the system serial number type the following: serialno [enter] The serial number will now be shown. The serial number of the system is coded into the hardwaree in the processor rack and cannot be changed. Checki ns with Bitbus Nodes ‘communica’ The nodes program is used to check that the processor (SoundStation or Sabre) can communicate with a given card. Ona Gold system it is not possible to use the nodes Program until the fllowing line has been typed: / \ / — mfsabort [enter] ‘Not all cards can communicate by Bitbus. To check communications with a given card type the following nodes with the number after,as displayed below, where ‘m' reprosents the 7 number: nodes m [enter] The following cards have Bitbus connections: mis 7 for Sabre console, f for SoundStation console, d for the CTB card, 20 for the first DIO card (channels 1-8), 21 for the second DIO card (channels 9-16), 10 for the first DSP card, 11 for the second DSP card. eg, nodes 7 [enter] To test a Sabre console. If there is no communication then following will be seen: [m}: ESPROTOCOL Exabyte Backup & Restore Problems with the exabyte restore, if you have restored your tape but have no new edl. as the exabyte firstly copies it's EDL information to the first audio disk before it copies the information to the hard disk here is the way to retreive the information. perform a restart from the main menu of the console and from the - prompt type: Attach the first audio disk ad bad00 as b This will attach the first audio disk dir ‘This command will display the information on the disk, you should see the directory ssdat. to display the contents of the ssdat directory type: dir :b:ssdat you will now see all of the EDL’s of the restored audio. As when you restore your audio all of the information on the hard disk you should automatically over write the EDL and all of the information on the disk. You will need to delete your ed! if it's not been over wrtien. delete /ssdat/*.new this will delete the directory delete /ssdat/*.r1 This will delete the reels on the system delete /ssdat/*.bak this will delete the directory backup's delete /ssdat/*.rel This will delete the back up's of the ree!’s on the system Copying the EDL from the audio disk to the system disk sssdat/*.rl to /ssdat This will copy all of the ree!'s of the backup to the system dat/*.new to /ssdat is will copy the driectory to the system, at this point you should detach the copy copy audio disk, dd b This will detach the audio disk, you can then type go to restart SoundStation Recovering EDL's by hand Ifyou are unable to use recover from the directory, here is a way to recover the old edl's (reel's or directory). First use the recover option from the directory, using the try it function you will be able to make sure that you are getting the correct reel / directory. Once you have got the right file you can then select the file name box. This will give you an 8 digit number note this number down as you will need to rename this file to get the information. back. From the - prompt type: For and old Directory rename /ssdat/cues.new to /ssdat/cues.old this will rename the current directory so the system will no longer see this file rename /ssdat/xxxxxxxx.bak to /ssdat/cues.new This will rename the backup file to the cues file, the system will then see it as the directory. For reel's rename /ssdat/xxxxxxxx.rel to /ssdat/hooonaxx.rl This will rename the backup of the selected reel so the system can then see the back up. Please note this will not overwrite the existing reel on the system. if you do not want it you will have to bin the reel, Checking the Disk Subsystem The first check to be made is to examine the contents of discboy log file. This can only be done after the either SoundStation/Sabre has run or after the line: g0 <:CI: has been seen on the terminal. To examine the contents of the log file type: copy :prog:discboy.log [enter] This will show the contents of the file on the diagnostic terminal. The last line should be: 0000: ESOK The other lines before this will show which hard disk, optical disks and exabyte tape drive which are connected to the system. Using GREP to find a specific reel in word ina file Using grep you are able to look for names or words in all of the files on the system, this is a very good way of looking for an old backup file. You are then able to rename the backup file so the system can then see this file. 1) Looking for a mame ina file that may be some where in the system. From the'~ prompt type the following: : ‘ i . we traverse sd: grep (name) *.* [enter] ‘This command will open all of the files in the system and will display'the location of the files on the screen giving the full path name, ‘Traverse is a global command and will perform the grep on each file in the path specified, in this case we have used the :sd: (the whole system), you can also specify a certain directory and this will then open all sub directories. grep (name) /ssdat/*.rel [enter] & This command will open all of the files in the selected directory with the suffix el and will display file name and location the files on the screen. grep=task (Search) (name)=name of the item word you are looking for Jssdat=path that you fine the files you wish to look inside /* sel= open all files with the rel suffix and see if they contain the word/name you are looking for. If the screen displays too much information, you are able to log this information to a file.
