Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) is
an American multinational semiconductor
company based in Santa Clara County,
California that develops computer
processors and related technologies for
business and consumer markets. While
initially it manufactured its own
processors, the company later outsourced
its manufacturing, a practice known as
going fabless, after GlobalFoundries was
spun off in 2009. AMD's main products
include microprocessors, motherboard chip
sets, embedded processors and graphics
processors for servers, workstations,
personal computers and embedded
system applications.
AMD Quality Policy
AMD’s Quality Management System ensures that their people, processes, and
systems are designed to be aligned with ISO 9001. In addition, they select
manufacturing partners that are ISO 9001 certified.
Guiding Principles include

Apparel Quality Management-II
Listening to the voice of the customer and ensuring their requirements are
met throughout the product lifecycle from solution design, to
manufacturing, to end consumer experience
Ensuring quality criteria are met through the design process, and product
designs are rigorously tested for quality and reliability to ensure longevity
and robustness
Ensuring all suppliers follow consistent manufacturing processes of high
standards to deliver competitive and high-quality products
Producing products that comply with all laws, regulatory, safety, quality
and reliability standards
Reviewing the quality management systems, documentation, and policies
regularly to monitor the achievement of quality objectives and results
Driving continuous improvement of business processes, systems, and
standards
Emphasizing the continued development of a quality mindset among
employees to engage their full participation, and accountability in quality
and reliability activities, and create a learning organization
Quality Management
Through AMD’s Quality Management
System, people at AMD are dedicated
to delivering high quality products to
enable their success. By enabling a
collection of standards, processes and
company-wide systems, they enable
5technological innovation while
maintaining world class levels of
quality. Their organization is focused
on delivering products with

Design and Development
Design teams at AMD uses Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for
Test (DFT) principles to ensure manufacturability and testability of packaged
devices and build in quality and reliability right from the start. They develop
and integrate silicon, board and package technologies into a final product that is
validated and qualified to meet customer expectations.
Phase Gate Process
AMD uses a rigorously governed phase gate process to embed quality from
concept to production. They use these quality gates at the end of each phase to
confirm that key criteria are met before the product is moved to the next stage.
AMD’s product lifecycle management processes help verify that the entire
lifecycle from product inception to end of life is based on industry standard
guidelines.
Product Validation
AMD conducts verification testing pre-silicon and validation testing post-
silicon. Pre-silicon activities include verifying the functionality of the chip and
conducting various advanced chip level modeling and simulations. Post-silicon
validation involves testing for speed, functionality and reliability on packaged
silicon. These comprehensive tests must meet stringent requirements prior to
production. Software validation is performed in parallel with hardware
validation to help deliver hardware and software components that operate in
harmony.

Reliability Qualification
AMD products are thoroughly evaluated to meet our customers’ product life
and performance expectations. AMD uses accelerated stress and lifetime
modeling to deliver robust field operation.
Typical reliability stress tests include but are not limited to
High Temperature Operating
Life (HTOL) Test
Preconditioning Test
Temperature Cycling Test
(TCT)
Highly Accelerated Stress Test
(HAST)
Temperature and Humidity
Bias (THB)
High Temperature Storage
(HTS)
Mechanical Shock and
Vibration (MSV)
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD)
Latch-up
Soft Error Rate Evaluations
(SER)
Board Level Reliability
Characterization
Manufacturing Quality
AMD partners with suppliers’ manufacturing and procurement teams to drive
manufacturing processes that meet or exceed AMD quality expectations. AMD
drives suppliers to make systematic and continuous improvements to their
processes by monitoring manufacturing stability and robustness, material
conformance to specifications, process and quality system audits, quality metric

reviews and driving continuous improvement. Their shared goal is achieving
zero quality excursions.
Supplier Selection and Auditing
AMD has suppliers located worldwide that provide wafer fabrication, bump,
assembly and test services for high-volume production. Their suppliers are
carefully selected to meet quality and high process standards. AMD manages
manufacturing partners’ quality through detailed monitoring and analysis of
quality data, driving quality issues using the 8D approach, performing audits for
compliance and continuously driving improvements to meet or exceed AMD’s
quality standards.
At a minimum, suppliers are expected to meet the following criteria
Certify to ISO 9001 Quality Management standards
Comply to AMD Process and Product Specifications
Comply to AMD Process Change Notification requirements
Apply 8D methodology for problem resolution and comply with the
AMD Corrective Action process
Use a DMAIC approach for continuous improvement quality projects and
reporting
Achieve Zero Quality Excursions

RoHS- RoHS compliance indicates
that the presence of any of the
restricted substances does not
exceed the maximum stated
concentration per homogeneous
material as defined by the EU
RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU and
the Directive (EU) 2015/863
Amendment.
REACH- REACH is the European
Community Regulation on
chemicals and their safe use (EC
1907/2006), enacted on July 1,
2017. It deals with
the Registration, Evaluation, Author
ization and Restriction of Chemical
substances. The REACH
Regulation identifies Substances of
Very High Concern (SVHC) that
must not be used, manufactured or
imported without the prior
authorization of regulatory bodies.
AMD’s products are designed and
manufactured to comply with
REACH regulations.
Conflict Minerals- AMD
shares the global concerns that
the use of certain minerals,
originating in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo, may be
directly or indirectly financing
human rights violations. AMD
strives to source their materials
ethically and manage their
supply chain responsibly.
