Communication System Assignment # 01

Mir Ali Nawaz Talpur.

37601.
BE(EE)
Question 1: Solve the following questions:
i. Convert absolute power ratio of 200 to a power gain in dB.
Ans: (dB) = 10*log10(200)= 23.0103
ii. Convert power gain Ap = 23dB to absolute ration.
Ans: AP=10log10(AP)

23dB=10log10(AP)
23dB10=log10(AP)
AP=199.526
iii. Convert power level of 200mW to dBm
Ans: P(dBm) = 10 ⋅ log10( 200mW / 1mW)= 23.010299957.

iv. Convert power level of 23dB to absolute power.

v. For a three stage system, with an input power = –20dBm and power gain of three stages
as Ap1= 13dB, Ap2 = 16dB and Ap3 = –6dB. Determine output power in dBm and watts.
Ans: Pout= (Pin) (AP1) (AP2) (AP3)

Pout= (0.01mw) (13) (16) (6)

Pout=0.012 W
Pout(dBm)=10 log (12mW/1mW)=10.79 dBm
vi. Consider previous question, now, P = 0.1mW, Ap1= 100dB, Ap2=40dB and Ap3 = 0dB.
Ans: Pout=(0.1)(100)(40)(0)
Pout=0W
Pout(dbm)=0dbm
vii. A three stage system comprises of two amplifiers and one filter. The input power is
0.3mW, the absolute power gains are, Ap1 = 30dB, Ap2 = 40dB and Ap3= 0.5dB determine,
a. The input power in dBm
Ans: dBm = 10log(mW) = 10log(0.3) = -5.23 dBm
b. The output power in Watts and dBm
Ans: Pout= (Pin) (AP1) (AP2) (AP3)
Pout= (0.3mw) (30) (40) (0.5)Pout=1.80 W
Pout(dBm)=10 log (180mW/1mW)=22.55dBm
c. The dB gain of each of three stages.
Ans:Ap1=10log30=14.77
Ap2=10log40=16.02
Ap3=10log0.5=-3.01

d. The overall gain in dB.

Ans: At=14.77+16.02+(-3.01)=27.76 db

Question 2: Develop One Sided and Two-Sided Spectrum of the following:

 v(t) = –3 – 4 sin 30πt
 v(t)= 10 – 15 sin 60πt – 20 cos 30πt
 v(t)= 6 – 28 sin 100πt – 20 cos 50πt + 70 sin 80πt – 65 cos 105πt
Question 3: For the following signal plot the amplitude and phase spectrum by taking Fourier
series
