Assignment Brief and Guidance

Scenario

For this assignment, you are asked to carry out the design and implementation of recruitment
website for Best Fit Recruitment. Best Fit are a small recruitment firm based in Queensbury
Bradford. They provide recruitment services for clients ranging from small to large companies in
Bradford and around the UK. They have a basic website which acts as a portal to their business. This
is a static website which gives basic information about the company and has some jobs advertised
on it. The managing Director David James has asked for a range of functionality to be added to the
website which includes the following:
(1) A facility for candidates to add personal details, their CV and to classify themselves in job
areas using a range of keywords to facilitate matching of candidates with jobs.
(2) A facility to add clients and jobs that they wish to recruit for.
(3) A facility to match candidates for particular jobs.

Task 1 (Analysis of business problem - Learning outcome 1)


(a) You are required to interview your client to ascertain his requirements in detail and then
produce a well-defined problem definition statement, a set of user requirements and system
requirements. (P1)
(b) You must assess any risks which could hamper the successful completion of your project (P2)
(c) You should produce a software design document that contains the following:
A detailed proposed solution
An analysis of the system carried out using UML
A systems design
Pseudo code for any algorithms that you will be using

A test plan
An implementation plan (M1)

Task 2 (Compare different software development methodologies - Learning outcome 2)


(a) You are required to research different software design and development methodologies and
the different tools and techniques associated with these methodologies. (P3)
(b) You are required to choose one of these software development methodologies and
associated tools and techniques for your project and justify your selection. (M1 & D1)

Task 3 (Present solution. Incorporate peer feedback. Develop Solution -Learning outcome 3)
(a) Create and deliver a formal presentation which reviews your business application, your
problem definition statement, your proposed solution and your chosen methodology.
Document any feedback given by your colleagues. (P4)
(b) Interpret your peer feedback and identify any opportunities to improve your business
application. (M3)
(c) Develop a functional business application using your software design document and
following your chosen software design methodology and the associated tools and
techniques.(P5 & M4)
(d) Evaluate any new insights, ideas or potential improvements to your system and justify the
reasons why you have chosen to include (or not to include) them as part of this business
application. (D2)

Task 4 (Evaluate business application. Suggest and justify improvements Learning outcome 4)
(a) Review the performance of your application against your original problem definition
statement. Your review should include an analysis of what parts of the application are
working to expectations and which parts aren’t. You should give a detailed account of the
factors that you think have influenced the performance of your application use them to
undertake a review of your design, development and testing stages of your application. Your
discussion should also contain a critical review of the risks you identified previously. (P6 &
M5)
(b) Carry out a critical evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of your application justify any
opportunities for further development of this application. (D3)
