SUMMARY OF THE MOVIES
MOANA SUMMARY:
Moana is a sea voyaging enthusiast and the only daughter of a chief in a long line of navigators. When
her island's fisherman cannot catch any fish and the crops fail, she learns that the demigod Maui caused
the blight by stealing the heart of the goddess Te Fiti. The only way to heal the island is to persuade
Maui to return Te Fiti's heart, so Moana sets off on an epic journey across the Pacific. Moana is a movie
that tells about a girl who is being counted on by of her tribe to rescue them. It can be seen that Moana
is up for any change and will not let anything get in her way in rescuing herself, island and her tribe."The
movie also discards the idea of male as the only savior of a woman in distress as it was Maui who left
Moana in between the sea when she was trying to fix Te Fiti's heart only to come back later when he
realizes hismistake. The protagonist of the film not only goes to voyage to save mother earth but also
finds her identity and true worth. She is brave and ambitious and listens to her heart despite of being
stopped by her father".This shows that the fact Moana is not a typical Disney Princess movie. She takes
matters into her own hands and decides herself that it is her that must save the island and her people.
The character Moana's personality and actions are stronger and more defined than any character Disney
has ever created, making her a successful role model of feminist ideals for young and old audiences.
Moana's actions in Moana demonstrate Disney's recent push to uplift female audiences, and spread a
sense of equality and feminist ideals by rebranding the figure of women where females can also be in
positions of power and make their own decisions.
JOAN OF ARCS SUMMARY:
With no military training, Joan convinced the embattled crown prince Charles of Valois to allow her to
lead a French army to the besieged city of Orl ans, where it achieved a momentous victory over the
English and their French allies, the Burgundians. After seeing the prince crowned King Charles VII, Joan
was captured by Anglo-Burgundian forces, tried for witchcraft and heresy and burned at the stake in
1431, at the age of 19. By the time she was officially canonized in 1920, the Maid of Orl ans had long
been considered one of history's greatest saints, and an enduring symbol of French unity and
nationalism. A peace treaty in 1420 disinherited the French crown prince, Charles of Valois, amid
accusations of his illegitimacy, and King Henry V was made ruler of both England and France. At the age
of 13, Joan began to hear voices, which she determined had been sent by God to give her a mission of
overwhelming importance: to save France by expelling its enemies, and to install Charles as its rightful
king. When Baudricort relented, Joan cropped her hair and dressed in men's clothes to make the 11-day
journey across enemy territory to Chinon, site of the crown prince's palace. Joan promised Charles she
would see him crowned king at Reims, the traditional site of French royal investiture, and asked him to
give her an army to lead to Orl ans, then under siege from the English. Against the advice of most of his
counselors and generals, Charles granted her request, and Joan set off to fend off the Siege of Orl ans in
March of 1429 dressed in white armor and riding a white horse. In the spring of 1430, the king ordered
Joan to confront a Burgundian assault on Compi gne. The Burgundians took her captive and brought her
amid much fanfare to the castle of Bouvreuil, occupied by the English commander at Rouen.
9 TO 5 SUMMARY:
9 to 5 is based on the 1980 movie of the same name, and features music and lyrics by Dolly Parton. It
centers on the downtrodden working lives of three women, Violet, Judy, and Doralee. They all work at
Consolidated Industries, which is presided over by the sexist, lecherous, and pompous, Franklin Hart.
After Judy has an awful first day, Hart passes Violet over for another promotion, and Doralee finds out
that Hart has been telling everyone they are having an affair, the three women unite in their hatred of
Hart. Doralee ties Hart up with the phone wires and, feeling empowered, they decide to imprison him in
his own house while his wife is away. In Hart's absence, Violet, Judy, and Doralee run the office to great
effect. They introduce childcare, hour-long lunch breaks, rehab programs, and much more to benefit the
staff at Consolidated. While Hart is tied up, the women also use the time to gather evidence that Hart
has been embezzling from the company, but Hart breaks free and surprises the women at the office. The
Chairman sends Hart to head up the Bolivia office and promotes Violet to the first female CEO. With Hart
gone, the company reprise 9 to 5, in the happy knowledge that times have changed for the better.
THE BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING SUMMARY:
As I narrates in the opening sequence, it is shown that she is the only girl who failed in her family in
Greek terms, She has not married a Greek boy, made Greek babies and fed everyone. She makes a
resolution to undergo some change, so after the unsuccessfully tries to talk to her stubborn father, Gus
to let her go to college for computer applications, her mother Maria intervenes and easily gets her into
going to school. A plan formulates: Toula will work for travel agency while Voula and her husband Taki
take a vacation and Nikki, their daughter works for the restaurant. One day, she notices that a stranger,
Ian has been looking through the window while she has been working and after making continuous eye
contact, Ian and Toula finally introduce each other and go out for dinner. When Toula is urged to talk
about her family life, Ian discovers that she was, in fact, the once frumpy woman hosting the guests in
the restaurant. The jig up when Toula's cousin Nikki bursts through the travel agency door and gives her
a "heads up" that she was seen kissing Ian "in the parking lot" and the news has gotten to Toula's family.
While in the bed at night, Ian proposes to Toula, who accepts and Gus is ultimately forced to accept it
also. Toula is horrified to learn that her parents invited the entire family to a quiet dinner and the Millers
unused to such cultural fervor are woefully uncomfortable. On the day of the wedding, Toula has a large
pimple on her face and morning madness break out. As the movie closes, it is revealed that Gus and
Maria have bought their daughter a house next door to them.
