1 Lubricating Oils, Lubricating Greases

and Coolants

1.1 Introduction
Epiroc fluids (oils, greases and coolants) are specifically made for Epiroc
equipment. Using these products creates optimal machine condition and minimizes
breakdowns. Correct grade selection of lubricating oils, lubricating greases and cool-
ants improves and extends the efficiency and service life of vehicle components.

In addition to these product recommendations, the following apply:

• Never mix lubricating oils, lubricating greases or coolants of a different type or

grade.
• Dispose of surplus oil in an environmentally-friendly manner, as recommended
by proper environmental authorities.
• If in doubt, contact your local Epiroc representative.

1.2 Temperature Zones

All fluids pertain to an intended temperature zone. The figure below displays three
different temperature zones and their respective temperature range.

2.1 Introduction
This chapter contains recommendations regarding the fuel used with (SLURF
equipment. Fuel quality is a major factor determining engine performance, engine
life, and acceptable exhaust emission levels.

In addition to these fuel recommendations, the following apply:

• Dispose of surplus fuel in an environmentally-friendly manner, as recommended

by proper environmental authorities.
• If in doubt, contact your local (SLURFrepresentative.

2.2 Diesel Fuel and Low Temperatures

At low temperatures, paraffin deposits in diesel can cause blockages, resulting in dis-
turbances in the fuel system. A special winter diesel should therefore be used in
ambient temperatures below 0 ºC.

2.3 Diesel Engines - Including Stage III

(SLURFdiesel engines, up to and including Stage III, must be driven on com-
mercial diesel fuel, containing a sulphur content less than 0.5%. A higher sulphur
content will result in shorter oil-change intervals.

Diesel fuel should be used when using one of the following specifications:

DIN 51 601

BS 2869: A1 and A2

ASTM D 975-88; 1-D and 2-D

CEN EN 590 or DIN EN 590

NATO Code F-54 and F-75

2.4 Stage III B and Stage 4 Diesel Engines

(SLURFStage III B diesel engines must be driven on commercial diesel fuel
containing a sulphur content less than 15 ppm. A higher sulphur content damages
the engine and the particle filter.

Diesel fuel should be used when using one of the following specifications:

EN 590 (max. 5% biodiesel)

DIN 51628 (max. 7% biodiesel)

ASTM: D 975 1-D and 2-D

JIS K 2204 Grade 1 and Grade 2

NATO F-54 in accordance with EN 590
