Based on the theories of Krashen exposed in the 2nd. Chapter of the book Principles and
practice in acquiring a second language, which is the content of Unit I (pages 9-30).
Check out the five hypotheses about acquiring a second language and choose the one that
best describes how your process of learning a foreign language has been.
I can say that in my learning process the hypothesis that describes me is THE
ACQUISITION-LEARNING DISTINCTION because when I was in school the teaching of
English was very little, they only taught us numbers, colors and things that were not
significant in my learning. It did not meet my expectations to acquire a language, I think
that the teaching that the teachers had to give us was not enough for what I should learn
in school, so I decided to study this language as I can learn English in a better way.
In this phase, you must answer the following questions, use strong arguments, do not use
theoretical quotes, and try to use examples to support your own ideas.
How do humans learn additional languages after learning the first?
It may seem impossible, but according to experts in the field, you can learn basic
communication skills in just a few weeks, and master the fundamentals of a foreign
language in a few months.
What factors contribute to the observed variability in the rates and outcomes of second
language learning?
The influencing factors is the willingness you have to learn a second language as you may
want to learn, but if I don't have a little time to study, how am I going to learn? What do I
want to learn for? second language, and the most important for my dedication and
practice because to learn a second language you have to practice a lot
What does it take to acquire advanced language and literacy skills in a language other
than your mother tongue?
It is necessary to learn skills that develop and strengthen the understanding of a non-
native language, which must complement each other.
One of the skills to acquire language and literacy skills that facilitate understanding of that
language and improve communication skills, including cognitive ones.
Developing language and literacy skills can be
1. Listening: the essential listening comprehension skill for learning, as it allows us to
understand and imitate sounds.
2. Speaking: listening and speaking are skills that develop hand in hand. Generally, people
learn a language and their goal is to “speak it so that they can communicate verbally and
clearly.
3. Reading: to develop language and literacy skills, it is also necessary to recognize written
signs and facilitate their writing and thus be able to understand them.
4.- Writing: writing is a skill since what has been learned is put into practice, when a
sentence can be written correctly and is understandable, effective communication is being
made.
All these skills allow us to develop language and literacy skills, it also depends on the
performance that each person puts on it.
