Electrical Engineering Lab Report For Lab 10

The document describes an experiment on a first order RC differentiator circuit. It discusses the circuit used, containing a resistor and capacitor. It then analyzes the circuit for different input signals including square, triangular and sinusoidal waves. Graphs are presented showing the input, output and combined signals. It is observed that as the time period increases relative to the RC constant, the output signal becomes more sawtooth-like and deviates more from the input signal. This is because the capacitor has more time to charge when the input time period is large. The conclusion is that the RC time constant determines how well the output can track the input signal.

1st ORDER RC DIFFERENTIATOR CIRCUIT

CIRCUIT:

Our Resistance = R=1k  and our Capacitance = C = 1  F and our Peak to Peak
voltage is =12V and amplitude /peak Voltage is =6V
OBSERVATIONS:
First of all let us calculate the RC constant of the circuit of the circuit ,
RC  1k  1F  1000 110 6 F  1 10 3 sec ond  1mSec
The time period T is usually given in the terms of RC constant which is actually the
time taken to charge the 63 % of the capacitor of it’s full capacity
Now our frequency will be given by=
1
F
T
 Now when the Time period is very small than RC i.eT<<RC

then we assume it to be tenth of an RC value :

RC 1mSec
T   0.1mSec
10 10
Frequency then will be :
1 1 1 1
F   3
  10kHz
T 0.1mSec 0.1 10 110  4
 Now when the Time period is equal to RC i.eT=RC

then we assume it to be equal to RC value :

T  RC  1mSec
Frequency then will be :
1 1 1
F    1kHz
T 1mSec 110 3
 Now when the Time period is very much greater than RC i.e T>>RC

then we assume it to be ten times that of an RC value :

T  10  RC  10  1mSec  10mSec
Frequency then will be :
1 1 1 1
F   3
  0.1kHz  100 Hz
T 10mSec 10  10 110  2

Conclusion:
The more the time period is greater then the RC constant the lower is the
frequency ,and the more saw tooth is the shape of the graph of output ,or
more deviated is the shape of graph of output from the graph of input
.And this phenomena is almost invisible in the case of the sine wave
where in the last combine wave we can see that the graph of output is not
saw tooth shape d yet its is slightly disoriented ,And the Y scale for the
output channel has to be made quite small to make it visible .All this is
happening due to the fact that that the charging pattern of the capacitor is
changing when the function of voltage is changed .When we make the
time constant of the input voltage bigger ,we give the capacitor the proper
time to charge ,and so we get the proper wave form of capacitor voltage
through the resistor ,which is actually a saw tooth one .
