Dear Director of Human Resources,

It is with great confidence that I recommend Megan as an intern at your organization. I have known
Megan for three years, and I am fully confident she possesses the skills and qualities necessary to succeed
in this position.

Megan is a highly motivated and dependable young woman. In her you would find a colleague who is
driven and congenial. Megan is fully capable of working independently, yet she’s also a terrific team
player. She adapts well to all situations, yet is a natural born leader. For instance, in my Communication
346 – Strategic Communication Campaigns course, Megan was part of a four-person team designing a
marketing plan for Anna Marie’s Alliance (a battered women’s shelter in St. Cloud). While most of her
classmates were fearful of tackling this campaign due to its sensitive nature, Megan was eager to accept
the challenge. Furthermore, based on her leadership qualities and work ethic, her team elected her as
group leader. She and her teammates produced one of the best campaigns I’ve received in this class, and
her teammates, as well as her site supervisor, gave her very high marks. In fact, I can easily say that
Megan is the best student I’ve had in this course, and based on Megan’s performance, I have asked her to
be my teaching assistant.

Megan is also a very strong writer. Her coursework has prepared her to write for public relations,
marketing, and/or journalism (to name just a few). Megan has performed well above average in all three
courses she’s taken with me (Mass Media and Society, Strategic Communication Campaigns and Mass
Media and Children), and I’ve found her writing skills to be superior to most of her peers.

Megan is highly analytical, constructively critical, and possesses excellent organizational skills. Her
performance in the courses she’s taken with me has shown clear attention to detail, strong initiative, and
complete follow through. She is a highly dependable and motivated individual.

Megan’s coursework, as well as her wide variety of volunteer experiences and internships, has greatly
prepared her for work in communication, marketing and public relations (to name a few). Megan has
managed to be highly involved in campus and service organizations, while maintaining a 3.9 GPA, a most
impressive feat.

Megan is a talented communicator and has impressive interpersonal skills. She is highly outgoing,
enthusiastic, considerate, and the type of person whom people enjoy working with.

In summary, I think Megan would be an excellent intern for your organization. She is among the top 5%
of students I have taught in my nine years at the College of St. Benedict and St. John’s University. It is
without hesitation that I recommend her to you. Please let me know if you have any questions, or would
like to further discuss Megan’s qualifications.

Sincerely,
Erin Szabo
