THA. S288174.8Fanfare and Finale is designed to provide a high-impact opening and closing for your
concert, or may be performed as a stand-alone piece using the optional percussion
interlude. {tis especially effective when performed by a large band. The fanfare from
Also Sprach Zarathustra, made famous in the film 2001: A Space Odyssey, may be
played with stunning effect by turing off the lights on the first beat of the piece and
turning them back on at the downbeat of measure [13]. If your performance area has
colored stage lights, you could also experiment with different colors in measures [5]
and [9}
The finale, The Great Gate of Kiev (from Pictures at an Exhibition), makes spectacu-
lar use of the tam-tam (gong). If you do not have a tam-tam, borrow one for this
piece. In the event you cannot locate a tam-tam, crash cymbals should be substituted
(omit written cymbal part from measure [56] to the end). When performing with a
large band, using multiple tam-tams, cymbals, etc. from measure [56] on will add to
the overwhelming effect of this work.CONDUCTOR Fanfare and Finale — #?##1#9¢ jaamane ‘
