INITIAL PAYMENT OF FEES: DUE BY 12 March 2021
Each student who intends registering for the 2021 academic year must make an initial payment according to the following
schedule and pay the outstanding balance by 31 July 2021. It is the responsibility of the student to pay this by due date. The
University does not remind students that this payment is due. Payment should be made on this advice, as we do not issue
detailed statements of account prior to registration. Receipt of this advice does not imply acceptance for admission to this
University. It is the responsibility of the student to use the Student Self Service functionality to maintain his/her address,
contact details and check fee balance.
A. TUITION FEES:
1. Each student must make an initial payment of R28 500 by 12 March 2021, subject to a once-off late
payment fee of 8% of the amount unpaid. This includes students who intend registering after the payment
date, for example postgraduate students. It is important for International students to read section C and D
below.
2. Full fees are payable by 12 March 2021 if the total annual fee is less than R 28 500.
3. Proforma invoice can be generated on self-service: https://publicaccess.uct.ac.
za/psp/public/EMPLOYEE/SA/c/UCT_PUBLIC_MENU.UCT_PROFORMA_DIST.GBL?
4. If a student/parent is unsure of the amount to be paid, for example when the student intends registering for a
single course only, it is their responsibility to consult the 2021 Student Fees Booklet, which is available on
the UCT website at URL: http://www.students.uct.ac.za/students/study/handbooks/current#fees_handbook
or contact the Fees Office prior to the payment date to determine the amount due.
5. All Doctorates (by thesis) .......................................................................................................................R22 420
6. Students receiving staff tuition rates as approved by Human Resources need to pay their percentage
contribution of the tuition initial amount not covered. Example: if you receive 90% off, you need to pay 10%
of R28 500 by the due date. Staff tuition rates do not apply to residence fees, see section B below.
7. Students who have been offered UCT financial assistance will not be penalized on any amounts received
from NSFAS and UCT financial assistance.
8. Students who have been made a firm offer of an external bursary must provide the Fees office with a written
bursary confirmation from their sponsors. Students must send bursary letters to [email protected] as
soon as possible. Where the amount of external bursary is less than the initial payment the student must pay
the difference by the 12 March 2021. Students who are uncertain on receiving a bursary, which subsequently
does not materialize, will not have an adjustment made to the 8% penalty fee raised on short payment of the
initial fees or to interest charged.
9. Students receiving confirmed UCT scholarships may deduct 50% of the annual award towards the initial
payment of fees due. Awards which have not been confirmed by the due date, may not be used to reduce the
initial payment due. Such awards when confirmed will be credited towards fees due by 31 July 2021.
10. Students who have been offered UCT accommodation need to pay residence initial fees as per section B
below.
11. Students registering for courses after 31 July, tuition is due immediately on registration. Interest is charged a
month after registration.
12. Students must settle all fees due by 31 July 2021.
