Herbal Formula Book List

These are the books I keep on hand and refer to frequently. Some weeks I add a few.

 The Detox Miracle Sourcebook – Robert Morse, N.D. –

o My absolute first choice for a BIG picture view simple and direct!
Never be without it!
 The One Earth Herbal Sourcebook – Alana Keith Tillotson, Ph.D>, A.H.G., D.Ay.
o Used as another daily reference for herbs. Great book that brings
together Chinese, Western, and Ayurvedic Herbal Treatments. It is
broken down into three very informative sections: An Orientation
Guide to Herbal Medicine; Getting to Know Your Herbs; and Herbs to
Treat the Whole Body.
 The Herbal Medicine Maker’s Handbook – A Home Manual – James Green,
Herbalist
o Excellent guide to help understand and guide you through making
herbal medicine. I carry it from room to room along with…
 Herbal Medicine From the Heart of the Earth – Sharol Marie Tilgner
o This is a great investment. Very concise, compact, and thoroughly
researched guide. I carry it around so much that it is now lost
somewhere between the house and the car since yesterday.
 School of Natural Healing, the Reference Volume on Natural Herbs for the
Teacher, Student or Herbal Practitioner - Dr. John R. Christopher
o Dr. Christopher’s formulas are timeless. There are probably a few
herb safety changes/substitutes that we would need to make on a few
due to scarcity or new safety information, but I own two volumes.
The original and the Centennial (they are almost identical from what I
can tell.
 The Herbal Drugstore: The Best Natural Alternatives to Over-the-Counter
and Prescription Medicines! Hardcover – Linda B. White, Steven Foster and
Herbs for Health Staff
o Handy and easy to use quick reference guide. I use this as a cross
reference for formula making.
 The Way of Herbs – Michael Tierra, L.Ac., O.M.D.
 Peterson Field Guides – (For your area) - Eastern Central Medicinal Plants
and Herbs – Steven Foster, James A. Duke and Roger Tory Peterson
o This is an excellent guide to take with you if you have the pocket-
reference size. Some weekends I keep it in the car for when I spot
something or when I’m looking for something while out and about.

A Few Other Reference Sources

 Herbal Healing – Phyllis A. Balch, CNC

o Excellent reference. This is one that I almost overlooked for purchase
because it seemed to me from the outside like a Reader’s Digest kind
of book…not as in depth as I first started out to find; I’m thankful I
have it when I am looking for something new and possible ideas to
create new formulas.
 Nutritional Healing - Phyllis A. Balch, CNC
o This was one of the first books I ever owned and wen through over
and over. Given to me by my mom over 13 years ago. It still comes in
handy when looking at specific body conditions and nutrition
guidelines that may help to support health. In stretching myself
toward raw vegan foods, I find it helpful to think about the quality of
the nutrients we can add, that also add flavor!
 Fit for Life and Fit for Life II –
o This is a great book to own. It goes into the importance of our
environment: Air, water, food, rest and sleep, exercise, sunshine,
animal products, and detoxification. Living health, juices, and more. I
think these have to be the first ones handed down to me from my
mom. Since I was a child who was always picking up and reading
every and anything I could: she just handed me her health books when
she was done!
 Earl Mindell’s Anti-Aging Bible
o Although I do not take supplements any longer, the information
concerning what the body needs is probably still relevant, but I would
get an updated version to be sure. I do know there is one for herbs
now, so I’ll be looking for a deal on Amazon when I get the itch to
update!
 The Great Physician’s RX – Jordan Rubin
o Overall a good book that I found very helpful at one time and may
refer to from time to time when dealing with certain health issues
related to intestinal dis-eases.

Please feel free to add books you may recommend and I will try to update as I find
new resources. There are so many out there. A good source for additional free
books is through Amazon. I have dozens on loan or free on my Kindle.

A few on my growing wish list include titles by:

Rosemary Gladstar
David Hoffman
Richo Chec
Matthew Wood
