C. Abstraction
What is a PROBABILITY?
 Probability is the chance that some event will happen
 It is the ratio of the number of ways a certain event can occur to the number of
possible outcomes
Outcome – one possible result of a probability.
Sample Space – the list of possible outcomes for a probability event.
Simple Event – a specific outcome or type of outcome.
Complementary Events – the events of one outcome happening and that outcomes not
happening are complimentary; the sum of the probabilities of complementary events is 1.

Provide these five problems involving finding the probability of simple and compound events.
1. What is the probability of rolling a 4?
2. What is the probability of rolling an even number?
3. What is the probability of spinning green?
4. What is the probability of flipping a tail
5. What is the probability of picking a heart?

D. Application
BestLink is having an INPODS giveaway. They put all the INPOD Shuffles in a bag.
Customers may choose an INPOD without looking at the color. Inside the bag are 4 orange, 5
blue, 6 green, and 5 pink INPODS. If Maria chooses one IPOD at random, what is the
probability she will choose an orange INPOD?

at random from the bag, what is the probability that a green pen is drawn?
4. A family has three children. What is the probability of getting a last child which is
a boy?
5. In a box, there are 24 balls numbered 1 through 24. If a ball is drawn from the
box, what is the probability that the ball shows a number divisible by 5?
