On-vehicle operations :
Ensure diff. lock – if fitted – is engaged before removing axle
drive shaft, if so required.
NOTE: Visually ensure that stud bores are free from cracks,
distortions or any kind of damage.
NOTE: Position the stud so that the flat on its head faces the
disc axis. (Fig. 5)
5. Screw a nut onto the stud and tighten until the stud head
bevel
touches the hub or disc face where applicable. (now installation
is completed).
Fig. 5
NOTE: Spacer must be longer than the shank of the stud.
Tighten stud nut according to technical data supplied by the
vehicle’s manufacturer.
On-vehicle operations:
Ensure diff. lock - if fitted - is engaged before removing axle drive
shaft, if so required.
1. Remove wheel.
Fig. 6 2. Remove brake drum or caliper as fitted. If drum brake fitted
refer to relevant maintenance manual for removal of brake
shoes. (Fig.6)
5. Place a container under the wheel hub and drain oil that may
have accumulated in the hub space while the vehicle has been
Fig. 7 in use. Oil disposal should be carried out according to the
legislation in force.

2 Maintenance
Checking components
Clean components thoroughly to enable overhaul and correct
reassembly; particular care should be taken in removing traces of
sealing compound from axle shaft and wheel hub mating faces by
means of a scraper.

WARNING
To avoid any damage to the unit bearing, ensure the tool
exerts pressure on the unit bearing outer edge. Also ensure
that after installation the bearing abuts the wheel hub inner
shoulder.
WARNING
The hoist should be handled by skilled and trained personnel
only as improper handling of this tool could result in serious
personal danger.

The use of this tool is essential while wheel hub
dismantling/reassembly operations are performed to prevent
damaging of rear axle thread and incorrect wheel hub
tightening; additionally, this tool should be used to ensure
integrity of unit bearing. (Fig. 22)
Fig. 22
5. Lubricate rear axle surface, thread protection bush and
bearing pack inner race with oil to facilitate assembly of wheel
hub unit.
