Abstract
In t h i s paper, we formulate an optimal weight designproblem of a gear f o r a constrained
bending strength of gear, t o r t i o n a l strength of shafts and each gear dimension as a nonlinear
integer programing(NIP) problemand solve i t d i r e c t l y by keeping the nonlinear c o n s t r a i n t by
using an improved genetic algorithm (GA). We discuss the efficency ofthe proposed method.
