EQUIPMENT AND PARAPHERNALIA
LO 1. Maintain Hand Tools, Drawing Instruments, Equipment and
Paraphernalia
1.1 Perform safety procedures in maintaining hand tools,
drawing instruments, equipment, and paraphernalia

Background Information for Learners:

Safety is protection against failure, breakage, or accident. Thinking of
the condition of being hurt, injured, or lost never helps the security of our
learners. Initial acquisition of knowledge and mastery of skills of our
students depends on the safety awareness of the teachers. One of the keys
to safety is the accurate procedures that we inculcate to our learners’ minds
before they perform any task required by the competencies. Safe methods
save our learners from dangers. Proper manipulation leads drafters to
accuracy. Appropriate handling of tools guides learners to mastery of skills.
Rough surfaces of drawing tables will not function the T-square accurately
leading from horizontal to oblique lines. Quality and well-set tools are the
bridge to great results of performance.
The requisite of this competency described maintain, observe, and
perform safety procedures in maintaining hand tools, drawing instruments,
equipment, and paraphernalia
After carefully reading all the lessons, answering all the questions,
and masterfully performing all the activities, you are expected to perform the
basic activities in maintaining hand tools, drawing instruments, equipment,
and paraphernalia. You will be guided by this module especially in actual
demonstration and presentation in your home.

drawing table. (Right side of the table if you are the left-handed and
left side of the table if you are right-handed).

2. Gradually slide the head of the T-square against the working edge of
the drawing table. The two blades should be in permanent touch until
the desired position.
ACTIVITY 7:
Directions: Answer the following questions below.

1. Explain the procedure number 1, how would you position the body of the
T-square parallel to the horizontal edge of the drawing table. (5 Pts.)
2. How can you make the body of the T-square parallel to the horizontal
edge of the drawing table, if the vertical edge of the drawing table is
damaged? (5 Pts.)
Activity 8:
HOW TO POSITION A DRAWING PAPER ON THE DRAWING TABLE
Directions: Do the second activity below by following the given procedures.

Lesson 2: MAINTAIN HAND TOOLS, DRAWING INSTRUMENTS,
EQUIPMENT AND PARAPHERNALIA
LO 1. Maintain Hand Tools, Drawing Instruments, Equipment and
Paraphernalia
1.2 Follow procedures in cleaning, tightening, and simple repair
of hand tools, drawing instruments, equipment, and
paraphernalia
Background Information for Learners:
Some workers don’t know how to use their tools properly. They don’t
even know how to maintain their tools. They don’t aware that there is a part
in their tool that is malfunctioned. The key to lasting tools is “maintenance.”
We must know to identify those failures in our tools.
As learners, we cannot demand anybody to repair our tools. We need to
learn how to do possible solutions in times of unusual moments.
One basic thing to remember to keep tools, equipment, and
paraphernalia clean and safe is to make sure that the workplace is
systematic.
Everyone should clean and maintain the good operating condition of all
the hand tools, equipment, and paraphernalia in the workshop. Since these
tools help in the completion of the different job requirements, keeping them
well stored will make work easier and more practical.
The habit of cleaning and keeping our tools and equipment after
using it is a must for the lasting life span of the tools and equipment. Adjust
and learn to love this habit for our lifelong benefit. Do this not only for a day
but every day. As learners and drafters, we love our tools and materials as to
how we love ourselves.

LO 1. Select Measuring Instruments
1.1 Identify measuring tools based on the objects to be measured
or job requirements
Background Information for Learners:
A perception of measurement is vital for all parts of manufacturing and
production technology. Measurements must be consistent so that people
have a common understanding and use in the production and use of
manufactured objects. Measuring tools are employed to measure
dimensions, implementing any work with precision. The measuring tools are
also used widely for carrying out different kinds of measurements.
Measuring tools are crucial for testing a
finished product or semi-finished product. The inspection or examination
operations include checking or testing an object based on the required
dimensions given on a diagram or a sketch. Measurements taken must be
accurate and precise.
The purpose of this competency provides different basic skills and

Lesson 3. PERFORM MENSURATION AND CALCULATION
LO 1. Select Measuring Instruments
1.2 Select appropriate measuring instruments according to job
requirements
Background Information for Learners:
There are two system of measurement: the English system which
originated in England and the Metric system or Systems International (S.I.)
which originated in France. Meter is the basic unit in the Systems
International measurement. In Meter, each gradation has a corresponding
measurement and it’s easy to follow the pattern to read from meter to
decimetre to centimetre to millimetre.
The purpose of this learning outcome provides different basic skills
and knowledge in selecting appropriate measuring instruments according to
job requirements. After carefully reading all the lessons, answering all the
questions, and masterfully performing all the activities, awareness in the
two systems of measurements are necessary. Measurements are everywhere
in this world. We do use them every day in our life situations. Businesses
and any practical situations are most concerns of computations or trade
mathematics. Accurately use measurements for precision.
You will be guided by this module especially in actual demonstration

Lesson 3. PERFORM MENSURATION AND CALCULATION
LO 1. Select Measuring Instruments
1.3 Interpret an object or component to be measured according to
the appropriate regular geometric shapes
Background Information for Learners:
Preciseness of products depends on how accurate the measurements
patterned in the manufacturing company. Small mistakes multiply gigantic
gaffes. A company with inaccurate models produces fallacious products.
Correct and uniform measurement must be a pattern in the company for a
great product. Once a measurement is a fix and exact, the pattern will be
propagated throughout the years for more reproduction. One more thing, if
the measurement is not uniform, our products are not in proportion. To get
a permanent measuring tool is the key to an exact and great product.
The purpose of this learning outcome provides different basic skills and
knowledge in Interpreting an object or component to be measured according
to the appropriate regular geometric shapes. After carefully reading all the
lessons, answering all the questions, and masterfully performing all the
activities, knowledge on measurement is useless if there is no application.
Many things are existing around us but we use them to apply this
awareness in measurement.
One of our exercises is measuring a 2D object using a foot rule. Before
going into the activity, learn first some techniques in reading a foot rule.

Lesson 3. PERFORM MENSURATION AND CALCULATION

LO 1. Select Measuring Instruments
1.4 Use alternative measuring tools without sacrificing cost and
quality of work
Background Information for Learners:
Accurate measurements can only take from manufactured measuring
tools from original companies around the world. There's nothing wrong with
quality measuring tools but how if there are no manufacturers? This
substitute for measuring tools is just available around us. This may be
paper, tree branches, a piece of wood, cardboard, body parts, or anything we
choose that can help us.
The purpose of this learning outcome provides different basic skills and
knowledge in making alternative measuring tools in times of unusual
malfunctioning of tools, misplaced tools, scarcity, and lack of measuring
tools, we must think of possible remedies.
After carefully reading all the lessons, answering all the questions, and
masterfully performing all the activities, students learn how to become
resourceful and creative in times of scarcity and troubles in tools and
equipment. There’s no need to buy an original tool for you to use if you
want. But if you have the gift of being resourceful. From this improvised
pencil compass, you can adjust radius whatever you want no longer than
the length of the wood stick. This improvised compass produces accurate
circles and arcs. The pencil must well-sharpened for more accurate lines.
Our activity below is all about alternative measuring tools. This is less
expensive for not manufactured in legitimate companies worldwide.
