1. Sociolinguistics is a scientific discipline that combines sociology and linguistics. Socio is the
society, and linguistics is about language. In the linguistic dictionary, sociolinguistics is a branch
of linguistics that studies the relationship and interplay between language behavior and social
behavior.
2. A : bagaimana rasanya lae? / in english " how does the taste brother?"
In batak toba language we called person that has same old with us (boy) is lae. In this situation
we know that both of their culture is batak toba. And he want so ask his friend about the taste
of a food
B : rasa apa? / in english " what taste?"
He confused about the question that his friend ask, and want to make clear about it with ask
him again
A : yang sedang bapa coba itu / in english " food that you eat"
He want to giving clue for his question
B : enak lah / in english "good"
In batak language sometimes people add partikel lah . This is mean with a clear statement or to
emphasize something that they describe.
A : enak gimana ? : what kind of good?"
Thia sentence want to ask his friend about the specific information.
B : adanya di iklan itu. / in english," it was in the ad"
Speaker add particel nya to emphasize his statement.
A : apa iklannya? / or in English "which ad" ?
The speaker want to heard detail information based on his friend statement
B : Go west get the best

3. Language style is defined as the choice of words used by a specific group of people when they
speak. An example of language style is bureaucratise, the words, jargon and abbreviations which
are used by the government. examples ;
 She picked a red rose from the ground.
 Scarlet was the rose that she plucked from the earth.
 From the ground she delicately plucked the ruby rose, cradling it in her hands as if it were a
priceless jewel.
As you can see, there are many ways to share the same basic information. An author can give a
short and simple sentence, like #1. Or, he could use more descriptive words and a poetic
sentence structure, like in #2, with phrases like “scarlet was the rose” instead of “the rose was
red.” Finally, an author could use imagery to paint a picture for the audience and add feeling to
the sentence, like in #3.
