NATURALISM

Naturalism is a manner of treating subject matter that presents deterministic view of human life and
actions. Modern playwrights like Henrik Ibsen shows naturalism in his play “A Doll’s House” that women
are always dominated by men in modern society. He showed that Nora was ordered to listen and
dominated by her father in childhood. After marriage she is dominated by her husband as well. She can’t
do anything without her husband’s permission as we can see in the play that she secretly eats
macaroons and not in front of her husband. Even when she did something for her husband’s sake, she
has been marked as guilty. This novel is a clear picture of naturalistic setting in a society. Dollhouses
were toys of grown-ups in nineteenth century Europe. They were little houses with outfitted insides,
extreme decoration and carefully made dolls; addressing the view of an ideal home. The title A Doll's
House, in this manner, serves to introduce a recognizable visual to the crowd dependent on
acknowledged standards and custom concerning an ideal home at the center of which are doll-like
married couples. Ibsen utilizes the stage to break these unnatural view of everyday life. A model is the
last scene when Nora goes out. She beats the door on Torvald, causing it to feel as though the whole set
will suffer down like a bunch of cards. The beating door loudly connotes the breakdown of the dollhouse
and would've made the crowd blow. This isn't simply because of the strong noise from the end door yet
in addition due to Nora's enormous strength in making such a move. Ibsen uses Naturalism to expose
the social reality of 19th century Norway. He manipulates the physical setting of the dollhouse in order
to make uncomfortable situations tense such as in the case of Nora leaving the house.

REALISM

In the play The Cherry Orchard, Lyobov and Gayev address the withering privileged. Their substantial
obligation constrained them to place their Orchard in the bartering. Their plantation made certain to be
lost. Notwithstanding, there was a course to save it by letting it on rent for the development of summer
bungalows. There was an opportunity for the for all intents and purposes biting the dust class to carry
on with an existence of variation and bargain. In any case, this class was too glad to even consider letting
their plantation on rent. Lyubov and Gayev were fairly prepared to leave the spot that to see others
having it. Lopakhin addresses the triumphantly arising working class. A man of activity he has confidence
in the need to make the fast move man of vision he is far busier in the arrangement to transcend the
oppressed class through monetary and functional achievement. When he had a place with the average
workers. He was a worker in Lyubov's home when he was a kid. Through difficult work and down to
earth line of reasoning he prevailing with regards to bringing in cash. With the enormous measure of
cash he procured, he prevailing with regards to changing himself from the regular workers to the
working class. Monetarily he turned out to be solid to the point that he purchased the Cherry Orchard of
Lyubov at closeout for the most noteworthy purchase. As a method of social authenticity the play
addresses the Russian culture before the finish of the nineteenth century. Around then the general
public was moving towards the edge to change. Chekhov caught the truth concerning the social change.
The uprooting of Lyobov and Gayev because of their inability to remain in the living of bargain and
transformation shows a brilliant actuality that the mid twentieth century Russian culture bade last
farewell to the last remainder of rotting primitive design.
