Title of speech: Balikbayan

Michi Ferrreol is an international student from Philippines to Harvard University. She is a second year
college. Her speech is all about “Balikbayan”. She delivered her speech through memorization. I think
she wants to inform and at the same time encourage other Filipino students who study abroad to return
to the Philippines to at least share what they learn.

For me she achieved her purpose because of some several factors. She even approached the
audience successfully by introducing herself and her topic. The use of microphone also helped her to
deliver her speech well. Her voice volume, rate, pitch and pauses were in perfect timing so it adds up to
the emotion built during her speech. Being a speaker, we can’t avoid fillers, though She didn’t avoid it, it
was minimally heard. She didn’t mind distracting movements instead she focus on her speech. Her facial
expression fitted to each words. She also pronounced every part of the speech properly. Her dress also
fits to the venue and the topic of her speech.

Being away from the land where you first made your dreams is not easy, but if we just think of
the better opportunities just live being a Balikbayan, we can survive being away from home.

Title of Speech: How Lupang Hinirang Ought to be Song

Lupang Hinirang is our national anthem. It symbolizes our freedom and uniqueness. Our national
anthem is made for us to remember the sacrifices that our heroes made to set us free from conquerors.

Joey Ayala with his speech “How Lupang Hinirang Ought to be Song” demonstrates how we should
sing our national anthem. His speech suggests amendments in terms of the tune of the Song. For me, he
achieved his purpose for his speech to inform because it can be seen from reactions of the audience.
Even though the audience and venue size is quite large, he managed to get their interest and made
them listen.
Since Mr. Ayala is a musician in nature he properly showed and sang how should we properly sing
our national anthem. His use of microphone and guitar made its way to the audience interest. He also
use his voice properly. His pitch, rate and volume were in place. His dress matched to his topic. Even
though his speech is a combination of Filipino and English language a popularly known as “Taglish” he
still pronounced each word properly.
Being funny during his speech also helped him to made his audience pay attention. Though it was
quite short for a speech, it is still worth watching because he delivered it briefly. His eyes also contains
sincerity to his work. Facial expressions are an important part of a speech and he managed to control
them even when he’s joking. He successfully avoid fillers maybe because he enjoyed what he did so his
speech came out naturally.

Title of Speech: Why I must Came Out

Acceptance will set us free. I think this is the belief the Geena Romera holds on to. She is a
Fashion Model and a Transgender Advocate. She was assigned Boy at birth but she felt that her body
didn’t match to what she feels. Fortunately she has a family supported her all the way.

The title of her speech is “Why I must Come Out” Her speech is kind of Informative. Her
purpose is to inform and at the same time persuade other people to open their arms for acceptance. I
think she delivered her speech successfully with the help of proper use of volume, pitches, rates and
pauses of her voice. Because she used microphone, she was able to reach all of her audience though the
venue is quite large. She was able to adjust the venue size with the help of eye contact. Since she used
to lived at the us it was natural for her to pronounce the words properly. She successfully avoided fillers
and distracting movements that made the speech worth watching and reading. Her facial expression
adds emotions to the speech and her dress symbolize simplicity.

Living in a word with world with full of discrimination and rejection will not do good in any of us.
We should open our hearts for people like Geena because not all of them are fortunate to have a
supportive family. We better understand and consider them before its too late.
