Part 3: Listening

Video part 3: https://youtu.be/o-oyAogXBeU

a) Watch Part 3. What happens to Becky? Choose the correct answer.

1. Becky meets Sam and learns how to make coffee.
2. Becky learns how to handle food and meets a café customer.

b) Watch again. Answer the questions.

1. Sam explains two things to Becky. What are they?
Sam teaches her how to properly handle food as well as making coffee. Besides the
fact that touching food is of bad manners, it can also spoil the food if one’s hands are
not clean enough, because it can be a factor of human to food contamination by
transmission. He also told her that the tables are all numbered so that she can address
accuracy at the time of delivering food.
2. What does Phil do in the café?
He comes to the café to write; he is currently writing a science fiction novel.
3. Why do they call him ‘JK’?
They do so since JK Rowling wrote the first harry potter book in a café, just as Phil is
doing.
4. Who is Emma?
Emma is Sam’s wife

c) Discuss the questions with the class. Give reasons for your answers.
1. Do you think the others like Phil coming to the café?
There are many people that go to a café for many different reasons, can be just for
travelling, business terms, studying and social purposes. Or maybe they are just hungry.

For example: Travelling. Tourists will be more likely to visit a café to either enjoy a cup
of coffee or get to know the city while they are around.
Business terms. Many business people go to a café to meet other people and do business.

Social purposes. Just to meet other people and enjoy a cup of coffee with them. Also, it
can be possible that you just go to a café for the sake to meet a standard or with the
intention to look as a really fancy person who eats in a good-looking environment.
Studying: as a student myself, I can say that it is a interesting idea to study at a café,
since there will be little to no distraction compared to being at home where
responsibilities arrive every now and then.

2. Do you think Becky will be good at her new job?

I think she will do a good job as long as she is committed to doing it. As she said she
is slowly getting hang of it. She will progressively get the flow of things as days go
by.
