The Starfish Story

A s a young boy and girl w alked along a beach at daw n,
they noticed an old w oman ahead of them picking up starfish
and tossing them into the sea.
Catching up w ith the old w om an, the girl asked w hy she w as doing this.
The old w om an explained that the stranded starfish w ould die
if left in the m orning sun.
“But the beach goes on for m iles and there are thousands of starfish,”
exclaim ed the girl.
“H ow can you alone m ake any difference?”
The old w om an looked at the starfish in her hand
and then tossed it safely into the w aves.
She turned to them , sm iled and said, “I m ade a difference to that one.”

OPERATION STARFISH

Our OLP Lenten Project

When we see or hear about the tremendous suffering of the poor, we may feel helpless. The
problem seems immense. But if you think about helping just one person or one family at a
time, suddenly you’ll realize that you can make a difference.
By working together, we, the community of Our Lady of Peace, can make a difference.
Just 160 families saving 50 cents a day for the 40 days of Lent will save $3,200 -- enough to
provide a new home with a latrine for a destitute family in Haiti.

Please look for the Operation Starfish box on the back tables of the church.
A of OLP and Religious Education children will bring them home
the week of Ash Wednesday.

This project is sponsored by Food For The Poor, and you can check them out at
www.foodforthepoor.org. Please consider participating with your family.
