BSC Hardware Configuration: About This Chapter
BSC Hardware Configuration: About This Chapter
The BSC hardware configuration is classified into local configuration and remote configuration
based on the location of the GTCS. The BSC hardware configuration is also classified into
configuration type A and configuration type B based on the operation and maintenance entity
used.
NOTE
The GSCUs between the subracks are connected in star topology. The main subrack is located in the center
of the subracks, whereas the extension subracks are connected to the main subrack.
l When the GMPS connects to the GSCU in the GEPS, the GMPS serves as the main subrack, and the
GEPS serves as the extension subrack.
l When the GSCUs in the GTCSs are interconnected, one GTCS serves as the main subrack and the
other GTCSs serve as the extension subracks.
The maximum length of the crossover cable delivered at present is 10 m. Therefore, if the distance between
the GMPS and the main GTCS is greater than 10 m, all the GTCSs should be configured remotely. If the
distance between the GMPS and the main GTCS is less than 10 m, all the GTCSs should be configured
locally.
Local Configuration
The GSCU in the main GTCS connects to the GSCU in the GMPS through the crossover cable.
The crossover cable provides the OM path between the GMPS and the main GTCS.
l Figure 2-1 shows the inter-subrack connection when the GBAM is configured.

Remote Configuration
The GSCU in the main GTCS is not connected to the GSCU in the GMPS. Instead, the GEIUT/
GOIUT in the GTCS is connected to the GEIUT/GOIUT in the GMPS through E1/T1 or optical
cables. The OM path between the GMPS and the main GTCS is the Ater OM link.

NOTE
The term Configuration Type A in all the BSC documents refers to the situation in which the GBAM is
configured in the BSC. The BSC can use either of the following configuration types: configuration type A
and configuration type B.
Minimum Configuration
A BSC requires one GMPS and one GTCS in minimum configuration. In this case, the BSC
supports 512 TRXs and 3840 speech channels. The number of cabinets to be configured varies,
depending on the location of the GTCS.
l When the GTCS is placed on the BSC side, a minimum of one cabinet must be configured,
as shown in Figure 2-5.
l When the GTCS is placed on the MSC side, a minimum of two cabinets must be configured,
as shown in Figure 2-6.

Maximum Configuration
The maximum configuration of the BSC is achieved through capacity expansion from its
minimum configuration. One BSC supports up to 2048 TRXs and 15360 speech channels. The
number of cabinets to be configured varies in maximum configuration, depending on the
transmission means used on the A interface.
When E1/T1 transmission is adopted on the A interface, the BSC can be configured with one
GMPS, three GEPSs, four GTCSs, and one GIMS in maximum configuration. The number of
cabinets to be configured varies, depending on the location of the GTCS.
l When the GTCS is placed on the BSC side, a maximum of three cabinets can be configured,
as shown in Figure 2-7.
l When the GTCS is placed on the MSC side, a maximum four cabinets can be configured,
as shown in Figure 2-8.

When STM-1 transmission is adopted on the A interface, the BSC can be configured with one
GMPS, three GEPSs, two GTCSs, and one GIMS in maximum configuration.
l When the GTCS is placed on the BSC side, a maximum of three cabinets can be configured,
as shown in Figure 2-9.

as shown in Figure 2-10.
