Abstract
There are people that think that students should not be allowed to have phones at school and
there are some that think students should be allowed to have their phones. There are many
different reasons why students should be allowed to have their phones in school. For example
teachers assign most of their work on line so students need to have their phones to do the work.
Another reason is that there are some students that like to stay organised so they would need
their phones for their notes and agendas. The last reason is that students need to keep in contact
with their loved ones to see what is going on at home or how they would be getting home.
However there are also a few good reasons on why phones should not be allowed on school
grounds. One reason for that is how easily students get distracted on their phones. There are a lot
of reasons on whether students should be allowed to bring their phones but it would be more

People under the age of 18 use their phones for everything. Especially when they are in
school. There are a lot of debates on whether students should be allowed to use their phones in
school. Some people think that it could be a distraction in class. Although some may say that
using phones at school is not a good Idea, having phones in school is something that students
need Because students use their phones for their school work, phones can help students be
organized in school, and students need to keep in contact with their family.
Technology is used for everything nowadays. In the past ten year technology has grown
in the classroom. According to Haglind, 2014 “56% of the students stated that they used mobile
phones for school work”. Students need their phone to be able to get their work done. That also
includes when a student needs to look something up when they are having trouble with an
assignment. According to unknown, 2018 “Kids who are curious about specific subjects can
perform research instantly from their desk, table, or assigned station.” If a student is struggling
with their work they can use their phone for help.

organizations.” To explain, in this article it talks about how important it is to stay organised.
Organization is a very big deal when it comes to school, and students need their phones to do so

Students deal with a lot of things. At school and at home. There are many different
circumstances that can go on outside of school that students would need their phones for inside
their school. For example, there are some students that need to keep in contact with their family’s
to see how they are going to get home or what’s going on at home. Majority of students have
working parents and or guardians. These parents and or guardians may have different work hours
everyday, so they don't know if they will be able to be picked up from school or if they will have
to take the bus or find a ride home. According to Taylor, 2014 “up to 50 percent of students ride
the bus to school.” In this article it talks about the different percentages of transportation use in
california. If up to 50 percent of students ride the bus then the other 50 percent of students get a
ride or ride there bicks home. So they would need to have their phones to see how they will be
getting home. There are also some parents that want to keep in touch with their child. According
to a school survey in 2021, 63.7% of parents talk to their child in school more than 4 times a day.
In the survey it asks how much do your parents communicate with you when you are in school.
Every person that took the survey said that their parents talk to them at school at least 2 times a
day.
There are some people that believe that phones should not be allowed in school.
According to John, 2021 “When a child takes their cellphone to school, they remain constantly
distracted because that’s the whole idea behind the cellphone’s design; to keep you constantly
looking at your phone.” phones hold a big distraction not only in students lives but in everyone's
lives. For students, getting distracted on their phones could lead to many possibilities. It could
lead to poor grades, the inability to focus and even not being able to turn their work in on time.
According to Chester, 2020 “Cyber-bullying is one often seen as a good reason for banning
phones in school. ” Cyberbullying is one of the main sources of bullying nowadays. About a

third of students of the ages 12 to 17 get cyberbullied. Banning phones from school is a way to
help shorten the amount of students being bullied online. However this will not stop
cyberbullying 100%. There are a lot more reasons why students should have their phones at
school.
Phones are used in students' everyday lives. Teachers assign their class work on google
classroom all the time. If phones are not aloud on school grounds then how do teachers expect
their students to get their work done in time. To help keep phones in school students should put
their phones away until they are needed. Students need to have their phones in school.
