Management / Site Personnel
Resident Engineer is a general recognized title who
takes responsibility for the matter relevant to the civil
engineering, building services engineering, structural
engineering, geographical engineering and / or
environmental engineering.

His professional status is similar to Architect, Building


Surveyor and Quantity Surveyor, except he has less
involvement in the architectural design, cost and contractual
matters, but more involvement in the engineering aspect.

Management / Site Personnel
Mainly Consultants engaged by Employer are to
supervise the works to be carried out in
accordance with the design intent (i.e. drawings,
specifications, contract conditions).

As a result, the works can be achieved with good


quality, with fair paid and also green construction
prospect.

Site Personnel
The Inspector of Works (Works Inspector)
is especially for civil engineering /
structural engineering / building service
engineering.

The Clerk of Works (COW) is for building


works.

Inspector of Works / Clerk of Works
These titled persons help the professions to check the materials
and workmanship submitted and provided by the contractor and
to maintain daily records for the works in progress and details of
work performance.

They are replete of experience with respect to technical


knowledge and practical perception of the construction works
(i.e. work sequence, level and standard of works requirement).
They act as a representative of the professions once authorized.

Site Personnel
Project manager / site agent is the chief person
representing the contractor for the large construction
company.
They act as a leader who must be able to demonstrate his ability to
organize works and to make sound decisions.

Project manager:
well experience with academic background
Site agent:
well experience with less academic background

Site manager is an experienced staff of a construction
company who looks after one / several projects from time
to time (subject to project size or his capacity).

His duties include:-


• Advising the project manager / site agent on how to
organize site works
• Coordinating and working in conjunction with other
servicing departments in the company
• Arranging the schedule of site meetings, and / or
workshops with all designer and constructor.

Site Personnel
Officer/ Works supervisor / General foreman
is the key person in controlling the performance of works by organizing the
resources.

Their duties include:-


• Delegation works instruction to the sub-contractors, workers;
• Helps setting up the work flow and site circulation;
• Ensuring and controlling the mobilization and movement of all plants
and tools as well as the coordination of interfacing activities;
• Ensuring and controlling the discipline of site safety, security, hygiene;
• Helps updating information for the down lines (i.e. instruction / new
information from client / variation of works)

Site Personnel
Land surveyor is responsible for the setting out
works and for making sure that works are constructed at
correct levels.

The land surveyor and his gangers and chainmen are the
people who actually carry out the site setting out and
digital location works.

Since well-developed information technology, the land


surveyor could provide electronic data for QS to check out
the quantity as quickest as possible.

The Manufacturer and Supplier
1. design components and materials to be durable, easily
handled and suitably packaged for safe transport to and on the site,
2. supply components and materials to the standards, sizes
and tolerances preferred by the industry,
3. arrange deliveries at specified, agreed times.
