OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY REFLECTION

Occupational health and safety were discussed by Mr. Renne F. Gumba via google meet. for me, this
topic is very important not only in the companies but most of all to the employees who are more
exposed to risks and hazards as within the job. In simple words, Occupational Health and Safety is
responsible for safeguarding the lives of the employees. It ensures that the health and welfare of the
people employed are well-taken care. As an employer, it is your responsibility to take care of your
employees. And Occupational Health and Safety warrant that you do that. Whichever industry you
operate in, you need to take the time to understand and analyze the dangers that are associated with
your workplace. You must take precautionary measures that no accidents occur as that will cost you and
also bring down your public image to the gutter. The republic act 11058 is an act strengthening
compliance with occupational safety and health standards and providing penalties for violation thereof.
This act has state policies that the state affirms labor as a primarily social and economic force and that a
safe and healthy workforce is an integral aspect of nation-building. the state shall ensure a safe and
healthful workplace for all working people by affording them full protection against all hazards in their
environment and the state shall protect every worker against injury, sickness, or death through safe and
healthful working conditions thereby assuring the conservation of valuable manpower resources and
prevention of loss or damage to lives and properties consistent with national development goals.
Occupational safety and health standards set rules issued by the DOLE which mandates the adoption
and use of appropriate practices, means, methods operation or process, and working conditions
reasonably necessary to ensure safe and healthful employment. every employer of a company has their
duties and responsibilities to the company and employees, keeps the workplace free from hazardous
conditions, provides complete job satisfaction and proper orientations, complies with OSH standards,
and provides capacity-building activities. The workers have rights among other employees, they have
the right to informed of all workplace hazards and have access to training and information, and being
oriented about these hazards. workers have the right to refuse unsafe work and the right to report
accidents and dangerous occurrences in the workplace. all covered workplaces shall have qualified OSH
personnel like first aider, safety officer, nurses in a company, dentist and physician, and the type of
personnel should be based on the classification of the workplace and employees to the determination of
the safety officer. the workplace should be adequate in the supply of drinking water and sanitary and
washing facilities. It should be a suitable living accommodation and others as may be prescribed by the
OSH standards and other issuances. Workplace-related injuries and accidents can be really serious but
can be avoided. As such, Occupational Health and Safety provides programs and frameworks so as to
resolve any workplace-related issues in a timely manner. It educates the company staff and employees
to help identify potential risks and hazards and provides helpful solutions to eliminate or reduce the
risks in order to establish a safer working environment. Occupational Health and Safety also offer
training to the employees to help them understand what actions they need to follow in order to not be
involved in any harmful accidents. The training will ensure that the employees are made aware of what
steps they can take in order to perform their activities in a safe manner, thereby reducing the fatality
rate. Occupational Health and Safety ensures that you show compliance with any legal laws and
requirements. Companies or individuals who do not ensure safe working environments and show
negligence to these laws open their doors for being shut down or face criminal charges. It offers efficient
tools and strategies to help your company combat any potential risks or hazards. Therefore, your
company in the process also becomes safe from scrutiny.
