BAGIAN A
Text 1:
A farmer came across a bird with a broken wing. He picked it up, took it home and looked
after it lovingly, even though his wife complained bitterly about his wasting too much time on
the creature.
After some time, the wing mended and, because the bird did not want the farmer to have
kept on arguing with his wife all the time, it decided to go back to its nest.
When the farmer discovered that the bird was gone, he was so upset that he went out to
look for it. Eventually, he found it again, and was greeted happily by the whole family of the
bird. As a sign of their thanks for his care and attention, the birds gave him a little box, and told
him not to open it until he got home.
To his surprise, the farmer found the box full of precious stones. When his wife saw them,
she decided that she too deserved a reward, and she went to see the birds. The birds gave her a
little casket; but this one was full of devils. The devils jumped on her as soon as she opened the
casket and chased her away.
Left alone, the farmer went to live near his friend, the bird. There he built a hut of
perfumed wood; and the birds decorated it with flowers of every kind.

step-sisters. She had to do all the household chores.
One day the king invited all the ladies in the kingdom to go to a ball (pesta dansa) in the palace.
He wanted to find the Crown Prince a wife.
The step sisters went to the ball that night with their mother. Cindrella was left alone. She cried
because she actually wanted to go to the ball, too.
Just then a fairy godmother came. With her magic wand, she gave Cindrella a coach (kereta),
two horses and footmen. She also gave Cindrella a lovely dress to wear the ball and a pair of
glass slippers. She told Cindrella to come home before midnight.
At the ball, Cindrella danced all night with the Prince. The Prince fell in love with her. At

BAGIAN A
Anybody who is over the age of six knows that there is nowhere safe for skateboarders to
skate. This prevents young people from enjoying an active, energetic and adventurous pastime.
Just watch a local street for a short while and note the steady stream of skaters speeding up and
down the footpaths. Toddlers can be trampled on and old ladies can be knocked down as they
struggle home carrying their cat food from supermarkets.
10
Skateboarding is a serious sport that improves young people’s health. It increases fitness,
improves balance and strengthens the joints in knees and ankles. Although it appears to be a solo
sport, when groups practice together and compete to perform stunts or runs they form firm
friendships.
Young people should be prevented from becoming overweight couch potatoes. If they are
actively involved in skating, they do not smoke, take drugs or break laws for fun.
Kids will always seek thrills and excitement. They need to practice their 180s, 360s and Ollie’s
free from restrictions. We must build skate parks in the suburbs so that streets are safe for small
children and senior citizens and skaters have spaces where they can race, chase, speed, and soar
towards the sun.
5. They need to practice their 180s, 360s and Ollie’s free from restrictions. (Paragraph 5)
The synonym of the underlined word is ….

The text is for questions 6 to 8.
Government should not raise fuel price to solve the problem of economic issues. People were
affected severely with the high fuel price like last year. Obviously they cut their spending. As an
example, they had to buy lower quality of rice or palm oil. There were also fewer buyers of
secondary commodities like flour, or canned meat or fish.
Furthermore, the condition of low income family will become even worse because their expenses
will increase while their salaries will not. Many companies will have to trim the number of
employees because they are incapable of managing, buying or selling price, standard wages and
personal affairs.
Finally, government should not raise fuel price to overcome economic problem but the solution
should be sought by tapping into the nation’s own potential and utilizing it to enhance
productivity to its maximum.
6. The title of the text is ….
A. The price of the secondary commodities
B. The effect of increasing fuel price
C. Condition of low income family
D. The increasing of fuel price
E. The economic problem
There are, however, some problems associated with this new industry. Firstly, there is the
increasing crime rate. Some local's tourists as an easy prey because, not only are they in
unfamiliar territory and therefore less able to take care of themselves, but also they carry visible
items of wealth, such as cameras and jewelery which can be disposed of quickly for profit.
Another major problem is health. With greater mobility comes greater danger of spreading
contagious diseases around the world. One carrier returning home could easily start an epidemic
before their illness was diagnosed. Moreover, the emergence of many diseases which resist
12
antibiotics is causing scientists to be increasingly concerned about this issue.
Also to be considered is the natural environment, which can be seriously threatened by too
many visitors. Australia's Great Barrier Reef, for example, is in danger of being destroyed by
tourists and there are plans to restrict visitors to some of the more delicate coral cays.
These are just three of the reasons why any country should be wary of committing itself to an
extensive tourism development program.
9. Why does the natural environment become one of the serious problem associated with the
faster planes ail cheaper flight? Because ....
A. it easily started an epidemic before their illness was diagnosed
B. it can be destroyed by too many visitors
C. the health problem will increase
D. they carry visible items of wealth
E. it can increase crime rate
10. Why is the crime rate increasing due to the new industry?

E. The tourists come by plane.

Students’ Cheating
Despite the fact that teachers advise their students not to do dishonest acts during tests, some
students still do cheating. There are many kinds of cheating that students do during the test or
examination, such as looking other students’ work, put some notes under their clothes, write
notes or formulas on their desks make hand signals or go to rest rooms to get the answers from
their friends.
In my view, students who do cheating are committing a crime. It is a sort of taking something
illegally. This crime causes negative results to the students. Students who always cheat
deteriorate their mental capacity. Cheating acts also create dependence. They weaken their self
confidence. Instead of preparing for the coming test, they are busy to organize notes on a piece
of paper. If this awful habit continues, the students will lose their opportunity to develop their
intellectual and mind.
Therefore, school should consider cheating as a very serious problem. School board and
administration should go hand to overcome this matter. Honesty must be put in school’s vision.
Harsh punishment must be applied to students who commit this crime.
2. From writer’s point of view, what will the school do to eliminate students who commit
cheating?
5. Why does the writer think that students who do cheating are committing a crime?

MODUL KELAS XII
Most people agree that the family planning program is desirable for the good of family and society.
But individuals and religious groups differ sharply on the methods of birth control that they consider
moral and acceptable.
Couples that practice birth control do so for various reasons. They may want to limit or space their
children, or to have no children at all. Young couples often postpone having children so that both partners
can work full-time. Other couples space their children so they can give each as much attention as
possible. Some women are advised by their doctor to avoid pregnancy for health reasons. In many
countries with rapidly growing populations, the government encourages couples to limit the number of
their families.
Even though birth control has gained in acceptance, opposition to the practice is continuous. Some
people fear that birth control encourages sexual outside marriage or that government might impose birth
control. Some religious groups oppose birth control on moral grounds.
Some religious groups teach that artificial methods of birth control are immoral because they separate
the purposes of intercourse in marriage-conjugal love and the procreation of children. Although they
oppose all artificial birth control, they consider natural family planning to be acceptable.
1. Some religious groups refuse to use …. birth control because of moral values.

There are many kinds of cactus plants, but most grow in deserts and other dry places. These plants
have adaptations, or special features, that let them live in places where there is little water.
Imagine, only having to take one big drink of water two or three times a year! That’s all the water a
cactus plant needs. The cactus is made up mostly of stems and roots. Most kinds of cactus have no leaves
or leaves that are very small. The cactus is made for storing water and water can escape through leaves.
The roots of a cactus spread out close to the surface of the ground. When it rains, the roots soak up as
much water as possible. Cactus plants do not close to one another. Each plant needs lots of room to
collect water. The stem of the cactus stores the water for the later use.
When spring rains fall on the desert, the cactus plant bloom. Beautiful yellow, red, orange and white
flowers appear on cactus plants. These flowers grow singly rather than in bunch.
