Levels of Technology Integration:
X Infusion Level: Students may work at a higher Bloom’s Level, but they do not have any “Voice or Choice”
during the activity and most of the decisions are made by the teacher.
☐ Integration Level: We would like to see ALL lessons/activities reach this level. The project is student-
driven. Students have “Voice and Choice” in the activities, selecting the topic of study and determining the
technology tool to demonstrate mastery of the standard. The teacher becomes more of a facilitator.
☐ Expansion Level: The projects created are shared outside of the classroom, publishing student work and
promoting authorship. This could be reached by showcasing the project on the school’s morning
newscast, posting the project to the classroom blog, or publishing via an outside source.
Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This Khan Academy activity will allow students to further understand
and practice addition and subtraction within 100. This technology tool supports all students because it
provides a variety of languages, expressions, and symbols as students are able to work at their own pace.
Because there has already been foundational instruction on this topic, this activity on Khan Academy acts as
an additional method for students to further their understanding. If students had not completely grasped the

ideas previously, there are videos that explain the topic in a different way. If students understood the
concepts on the lesson taught in class, this activity will give them drill and practice so they can feel confident
in their skills. UDL principles are present in this tool because students can become engaged through the
achievement of badges and trophies. Students are able to represent what they know through the quizzes and
practice on the activity or through models in class. Because the students have the option to show their
knowledge on the computer or physically with a model, the students can display their interests in creativity or
in technology.
Lesson idea implementation: Teacher will start the lesson with a review of place value and its role in math.
Teacher will also discuss the place value models (hundreds, tens, ones). Students will then be split into groups
where they will be given a set of addition and subtraction problems within 100 and place value models to
represent the equations. Teacher will roam the classroom and monitor how the groups are answering the
equations. Then, students will work individually on their devices on Khan Academy (assignment linked above).
Students will complete the practices and quizzes online. Then, the students have the option of completing the
unit assessment on Khan Academy or by creating a model of a select number of equations given by the
teacher. This activity may take upwards of an hour, so it will be performed throughout a week. Students will
be assessed through their progress on Khan Academy, and students will have multiple options to display their
knowledge of the unit in their final project, which in turn is differentiating learning. To extend student
learning to a higher learning level, students can work on addition and subtraction with numbers higher than
100. To conclude the lesson, students will be able to come up the board/smart board and answer an
equation. As the student is answering the equation, they will be explaining their thought process. Teacher can
evaluate the students’ work on Khan Academy or the models they completed and assess which students need
additional help. The students who need additional help will have an opportunity to complete another Khan
Academy assignment or have more practice on a different program.
Reflective Practice: The activities created would impact student learning by ensuring the students understand
the topic. The students will have the opportunity to hear the material be taught two different ways, and some
students may connect to one way over another. By providing an additional way of explaining, more students
will be reached and will understand the topic. To further extend this activity, the students could revisit the
idea of models and come up with ways they can represent the equations with a model they designed on their
own. An additional technology tool that provided games might be beneficial to connect with even more
students who may need additional assistance.
