Technology Action Plan

North Shore Middle School implemented a technology action plan to improve education through greater technology integration. The plan includes surveying teachers and students annually to assess technology needs, providing professional development training for teachers on using various software and hardware, and having teachers work in departments to develop lessons plans that meet curricular goals and incorporate classroom technology. The principal oversees daily operations and ensures teachers receive support, while a technology instructional specialist aids teachers in technology integration. Effectiveness will be evaluated through surveys, teacher observations and evaluations, student feedback, and assessment data comparison.

Technology Action Plan

North Shore Middle School

Introduction
Since 2006-2007 school year North Shore Middle School has been implementing
new technology to meet the needs of the Texas Long Range Technology Plan but also the
needs of society. Each year the school completes a survey to assess the amount and
quality of technology that has been implemented into the classroom. The school and
school district will analyze this data and use it to write new goals in the campus
improvement plan. The ultimate goal is to improve the quality of education within the
classrooms by implementing more technology into the curriculum to meet the needs of
the community. In order for our school to attain this goal we will need to better educate
our teachers so they can better implement the technology.

Organizational Chart

Superintendent
Role and Responsibility is to oversee the operation of the school district.

Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction

Role and Responsibility is to oversee the daily operation of curriculum and budget
and to have the principals report the progress.

Campus Principal
Role and Responsibility is to oversee the daily operations of the school,
curriculum and budget. The principal will also identify needs,
means of staff development, and ways to implement the new
technology efficiently.

Technology Instructional Specialist

Role and Responsibility is to aid in the implementation of technology into the
curriculum, staff development, and technical support for
the campus.

Classroom Teacher
Role and Responsibility is to implement technology
in order to improve the curriculum and meet the
goals of the campus.
Role of the Principal
The role of the principal is to oversee the day to day operations of the school. The
principal’s duty is to insure all of the teachers are fulfilling the needs of the students by
meeting the objectives that have been set in place by the administrative offices. The
principal also needs to make sure all of the teachers are receiving the proper amount and
quality of staff development so they can implement and integrate the technology in the
most effective and efficient way. The campus principal also needs to insure the school is
staying within the budget the school board has put in place for the school year.

Professional Development Activities

In order to meet the needs of the teacher, students, community, and school district we
need to know the mission our district has written.
GPISD Technology mission is:

“The technology mission of GPISD is to integrate technology in a way that the

educational program for all children in the district will encourage problem-solving,
exploration and learning in the classroom; provide student-centered learning;
provide access to technology for all students and staff; provide for both current
and future needs; restructure the learning environment; encourage
communication; complement current key teaching strategies; and implement a
comprehensive information system.”

After reviewing the data collected from my surveys, we are not meeting the students’
needs or the mission of the school. The mission clearly states, “provide access to
technology for all students…” when my surveys conducted on the students suggests
otherwise. The students clearly states they rarely have chances to use the computers
during class and are provided with insufficient time before or after school to complete
daily tasks. In order to meet the mission statement the teachers will need to receive
training with the computers and various software so they can find new and innovative
ways to implement the technology into their classrooms.

Activity: Integrating Technology into our Classrooms!

Goal: The faculty will meet with their content specialists to devise a goal and
objectives to meet by the end of the first semester. They will present their
goal to the technology integration specialist, Ms. Shardonofsky, so they
can create different plans to meet the needs of the content as well as
integrating technology into the classroom to meet the goals of the school.

Plan: 1.The technology Integration Specialist (TIS) will meet with the faculty to
present the STaR chart data to the school. She will show trends and
possible ways to improve our school by using the data. She will also
convey the importance of the technology in the classroom and the
importance of completing the STaR chart each year.
2. The TIS will show us the available software and hardware in our
classrooms and various ways to use them to teach the content. This will
spark various ideas and discussion amongst the faculty.

3. The departments will meet together to find ways to implement the

technology into lessons throughout the first semester of the school year.

4. The department chairs will meet with the Technology Integration

Specialist to finalize the lesson plans to insure the technology is being
used in the most effective and efficient means possible. The teachers will
also assign dates as to when these lessons will be taught so the TIS can aid
in the lesson.

5. Teaching the lesson with the aid of the specialist.

6. Reflecting on the lesson with the entire department, administrative

staff, and Technology Specialist and ways to improve the lesson and
upcoming lessons.

7. After the reflection with everyone, we will all complete a survey

reflecting on our entire experience and adding any other comments
anonymously.

Evaluation Plan
In order to assess the plan accurately we will need to have feedback from the
administration level, teachers, support staff, and the technology staff. When we are
having our last meeting where all of the staff is reflecting, we will need to have a person
recording the meeting so we can retrieve the data and look at it collectively.

One of the effective means of retrieving feedback is to have the faculty complete
the STaR chart each year. This will provide our school and district with a broad idea as
to what we will need to work on each year. This will also give the faculty a chance to
provide feedback on technology in our classrooms and within the confines of the school.
This will also allow the administrators to know and understand what areas are lacking
and need to be stressed for the upcoming year. The district can also look at the AEIS
report for each school year to determine if technology being added to the content will
improve next years data.

Teachers also need to be evaluated on a more consistent basis. One of the more
popular ways is to have an administrator or a department specialist critiquing your lesson.
Our PDAS evaluations provide us with ample feedback on our lessons but tend to neglect
the technology being added. I would like to see the administrators comment on the
technology aspect so the teachers can get an idea of how effective/ineffective the lesson
truly was. Peer evaluations are another great idea to add to the classrooms. An active
and effective teacher will have ideas and comments that could be more effective to the
teacher. The Peers might also reflect on the lesson and collaborate to make a more
powerful and effective lesson for the upcoming classes. The teachers should also have
the students reflect on the lessons. As a teacher you could; ask the students what needs to
be added to the lesson, or how could technology make this lesson better the next time?
The teachers ultimately have their district assessment data for more prompt feedback on
their lessons. This will allow the teacher(s) to compare their data from the pervious year
or test to identify if the changes improved the lessons or not.
