1) On June 21, 2019, 31 students from Sto. Rosario Integrated School in Masinloc, Zambales participated in a mangrove tree planting activity in Sittio Calauag, San Lorenzo. 2) The objectives of the activity were to restore mangroves for coastal protection, enhance student awareness of mangroves, address climate change through mangrove conservation and restoration, and protect coastal areas. 3) During the activity, students received an orientation on proper mangrove planting techniques. They then planted 15-20 mangrove branches each that will grow into full trees over 10-15 years, helping to protect the coastal area from storms and erosion.

Venues: Sittio Calauag, San Lorenzo, Masinloc, Zambales

Objectives: The objectives of this activity are the following:


1. to restore the Mangrove in Sittio Calauag, San Lorenzo, Masinloc,
Zambales for coastal protection;
2. to enhance students awareness of the value of mangroves;
3. to address climate change through Mangrove conservation and
restoration
4. to protect and improve coastal area

PART II: NARRATIVE REPORT

The Mangrove Tree Planting a school-based project on planting mangroves in coastal


are of Sittio Calauag, San Lorenzo, Masinloc, Zambales.

Mangrove Tree Planting aims to engage students to address climate change through
mangrove conservation and restoration and to enhance their awareness of the value of
mangroves.

Last January 21, 2019, the Grade 10 students of Sto. Rosario Integrated School with
their adviser Mr. Chester F. Mertola organized a Mangrove Tree planting project in
collaboration with PTA Officers.

The students attended a short orientation discussing about the correct way of planting
the mangrove trees. Mangroves are planted to protect coastal area from damaging storms,
hurricane winds, waves, and floods. It also helps prevent erosion and maintain water quality
and clarity.

Before reaching the bay, the students trailed a muddy track before being able to go
plant the mangroves. Each students were to plant 15 – 20 branches of a mangroves which will
serve it’s grow as a tree after 10-15 years. The students also conducted a coastal clean – up.
After finishing the mangrove planting, the students safely traveled back to their
school where they all parted to go home.
