GENERAL NOTES
01 The contractor shall be responsible for the co-ordination of all works as mentioned in Bill of
Quantities, drawings, specifications, conditions etc. with all other contractors working on site without
any extra claim.
02 The items mentioned in the Bill of Quantities consist of furnishing all plant, labour, equipment,
machinery, appliances, materials, fittings, fixtures, fabrication, erection, installation required for
completing the items/ works and the works hall be done in accordance with Bill of Quantities,
specifications, conditions of contract and drawings complete in all respects.
03 The complete description of items of work in Bill of Quantities, general directions, conditions and
limitation of work, location and place of work, applicable methods and means to be adopted, type
and quality of materials, use of tools, plant and machinery are not necessarily mentioned in the
description column of Bill of Quantities. These shall be referred to in accordance with specifications,
drawings, condition of contract and Engineer-In-Charge’s instructions.
04 The tenderer may ensure himself for the correctness of quantities and application of the individual
item for works as per drawings, Specifications and contract documents.
05 The quantities as contained in the Bill of Quantities are approximate estimated quantities and liable
to be changed or omitted when the work will be actually executed. The Engineer-In-Charge is
authorized to delete any item of work or vary quantities of any item of Bill of Quantities. The
Engineer-In-Charge is also authorized to include any number of new items in accordance with
contract conditions. No claim for the payment will be admissible on account of anticipated profit or
variation in overhead expenditures for the works not actually performed nor will any adjustment in
the unit rate set forth in the Bill of Quantities be made because of any increase or any decrease in
the quantities indicated therein.
06 The prices and rates to be quoted in the Bill of Quantities are to be complete inclusive value of the
works described under specified items including all cost and expenses which may be required in
and for the construction of the works described together with all risks, liabilities and obligations set
forth and implied in all the documents referred to on which the tender is based. The rates quoted in
the rate column are full value of unit price as shown in unit column and are firm and final and shall
be valid for the works involved as per drawings, specifications, contract conditions and instructions.
07 Unless otherwise stated, in the text of the Bill of Quantities, the quantities have to be measured and
paid in accordance with measurement and payment of works clauses given in the relevant
specifications or in accordance with implied meaning of the specifications. Any special method of
measurement used as stated in the text of Bill of Quantities is limited.
08 Unit rate is to be entered against each item in the Bill of Quantities whether quantities are entered
or not.
09 The Bill of Quantities shall be read in conjunction with conditions of Contracts, technical
specifications and the drawings.
10 The contractor shall take maximum care in unloading stacking, storing, installing all imported
materials and any damage during transit etc. shall be promptly reported to the project manager to
enable lodging of claim with the insurance . The contractor will be responsible of all such damages
which are not covered by insurance and will replace the materials at his own cost . He will also
maintain a proper record to the satisfaction of the Engineer-In-Charge.
11 Each cutting in tender document should be signed by an authorized person.
12 The rates to be quoted in the bill of quantities are to be complete inclusive of the value of work like
removing, loading and unloading of surplus materials and disposal as directed by Engineer-In-
Charge and local municipal authorities including all charges in connection therewith, etc. all
complete as per drawing and direction of Engineer-In-Charge.
13 The works mentioned as preliminary and general matter are not to be priced by the contractor and
their cost is deemed to be included in the unit prices quoted against quantities given in subheads.

NOTES FOR EARTHWORK
01 Earthwork specified herein shall be executed in accordance with the technical specifications
included in the tender documents.
02 Earthwork shall be measured as per vertical plan dimensions of RC works. Existing ground levels
shall be recorded by the contractor jointly with the Owner’s representative before commencing the
excavation or filling. The quantities of excavation and filling shall be computed with reference to
these recorded levels.
03 Battering and benching of excavation sides if required shall not be measured and paid for
separately.
04 The following shall not be measured and allowance for the same shall be made by the contractor in
the quoted rates.
a) Setting out of work and site clearance.
b) Excavation for insertion of planking and strutting.
c) Removal of slips or falls in excavation due to any reason whatsoever.
d) Forming steps in the sides of excavation and their removal.
e) Bailing or pumping out water in excavation caused from rains, springs, underground water source
underground pipe lines, drains etc. for keeping it dry during construction of the building up to 1m
above ground floor level is completed.
05 All excavated material will be property of the owner.
06 All kinds of filling in the sides of foundations, pits, trenches, plinth etc. shall be thoroughly
consolidated layer by layer by hand ramming with heavy cast iron rammers at optimum moisture in
soil and watering up to saturation.
07 Pre-construction Anti-termite shall be executed in accordance with Technical specification through
a specialized agency approved by Engineer-in-Charge. The treatment shall be guaranteed against
termite for a minimum period of ten (10) years.
08 All major excavation will be carried out by mechanical means using machinery as approved by
Engineer-in-Charge.

NOTES FOR CONCRETE WORK
01 The work specified herein, shall be executed as per released for construction drawings and the
technical specifications given in this tender document.
02 Sand used shall be coarse sand and aggregate shall be hard crushed stone, in accordance with the
requirements of relevant code.
03 In all RC work, rate shall be exclusive of reinforcement, form work and finishing which are payable
under separate item unless included in the item description.
04 The concrete shall be mechanically mixed and vibrated.
05 Cutout in RC slab, parapet, wall for rain water pipe or spout shall be provided at the time of casting
concrete or raising masonry without any extra cost. The cutout will be made good after fixing the
pipe.
06 Grooves, chamfers edges, drip-moulds, moulds up to 40x40mm, curved surface shall be made as
per drawing design or as per instructions of the Project Manager/owner’s Consultant in RC
members without any extra payment.
07 Rates quoted shall be inclusive of the following :
a) All leads & lifts.
b) providing expansion and/or construction joints as per drawing or direction of the Engineer-in-
Charge.
c) Embedding electrical conduits, boxes, fan hooks, pipe sleeves and inserts etc. provided and laid by
other agencies.
d) Work in narrow widths, small quantities and curved alignments.
e) Preparation of bar bending schedules and material takeoff lists.
08 Unless specified otherwise in drawing , the nominal size of graded stone aggregate for concrete
work shall be as outlined below:
a) 50mm thick PCC : 20 down
b) 75 & 100mm thick PCC : 40 down
c) DPC : 10 down
d) RCC work : 20 down
09 Cement shall be ordinary Portland cement as relevant IS codes.
10 All RC mix shall be control design mix.

01 Welding shall be permitted to be carried out by licensed welders. All welding work shall befilletweld
in general. Fabrication shall be shop erected to check the accuracy of fit and fabrication
02 All steel works shall be properly cleaned of all loose mills, scales, rust, dirt and other foreign
material. Parts inaccessible after assembly shall be given two coats of shop paint of specified
shade.
03 Payment shall be made on the basis of theoretical tonnage erected based on actual
measurements.
04 The rate of items are inclusive of cutting, forging, drilling, punching, welding, cost of bolts& nuts
rivets (weight being taken in the main item) template cleaning etc. all complete as per drawing and
direction of Engineer-In-Charge.
05 For safety precautions during erection of steel structure reference shall be made to IS : 7205.
06 During erection, the steel work shall be securely bolted or fastened and when necessary,
temporarily braced to provide for all load to be carried by the structure during erection including
those due to erection equipments and its operation. No payment shall be made separately for this.

NOTES FOR MASONRY WORK
01 The work specified herein shall be carried out as indicated on the drawings and as per technical
specifications given in this tender documents.
02 The mortar shall be composed as specified and thoroughly machine mixed. Mortar shall not be
hand mixed. The mortar that has commenced to set shall not be used in the work.
03 Every brick shall be thoroughly soaked in water before use. Broken bricks shall not be used except
as closures. The courses shall be truly horizontal and the work strictly to the plumb, joints shall be
broken vertically and they shall not exceed 12mm in thickness. All joints in brick work are to be well
filled with mortar.
04 The brick work shall not be raised more than 12 single courses per day and shall be built in English
bond. The bricks on edges and half brick wall, shall be built in stretcher bond. The brick shall be
placed with frog facing upwards.
05 No extra payment will be made for jointing new brick with the brickwork already completed. It
includes cutting toothing in brick work, applying cement slurry etc. complete.
06 All joints in brickwork shall be raked out 15mm deep as the work proceeds, and before the mortar
sets and the work left clean after wire brushing. No extra shall be paid for face work and selection
of bricks.
07 The brickwork is to be carried out with all necessary set backs, projections, cuttings and toothing in
conformity with the architectural drawings.
08 All uneven, irregular and bad masonry work , poor in workmanship shall be demolished if deemed
necessary by the Engineer-In-Charge and rebuilt by the contractor at his own cost.
09 Any efflorescence observed in brick work should be washed down with clean water and brick
surface treated with such chemicals as are deemed necessary by the Engineer-In-Charge and work
rebuilt with new bricks including making good all work disturbed without any extra charge.
10 All deductions shall be measured to net size of the openings and recesses. No deduction will be
made for openings up to 0.1 sqm. and for ends of dissimilar materials ( i.e. beams, lintels etc.) each
upto 500sqcm. in section.
11 In masonry works, extra payment shall not be made for making openings for exhaust fan/rain water
pipe/spout etc. as shown on drawings and / as directed by the Engineer-In-Charge.
12 Rate quoted shall be inclusive of :
a) All leads and lifts.
b) Work in square, round or rectangular pillars, planters, under floor drains etc.
c) Coordinating the embedding of conduits or other fixtures of any description, provided and laid by
other agencies.
d) Making all drip course, projected course of any description, offsets, setbacks, corbels, architrave’s
or other features of any description.
e) Work in narrow widths, small quantities and curved alignments.
f) Raking out joints for plastering or pointing or finishing joints flush as directed.
