Refrigerant-134a is to be cooled by water in a condenser. The
refrigerant enters the condenser with a mass
flow rate of 6 kg/min
at 1 MPa and 70°C and leaves at 35°C. The cooling water enters at
300 kPa and 18°C
and leaves at 28°C. Neglecting any pressure drops,
determine (a) The mass flow rate [kg/min] of the
cooling water
required and (b) the heat transfer rate [kJ/min] from the
refrigerant to water.

Fromrefrigent 134 a tables

h3= 303.85 kJ/kg

h4=hf_35=100.87 kJ/kg

substituting in Equation 1 we get

Hence mass flow of water = 29.1 kg/min

b)From Steady Flow we E in = E out

rearranging and substtuting above values or respective terms we
