IH CYLT OBSERVATION TASK 2: Teacher Roles

Look at the different roles a teacher might take on throughout the lesson. Watch a colleague
and tick the role(s) they play in the classroom. In addition, make notes of why you think this is
happening.
Role Why have they taken on this role?
Planner Andrés shows excellent planning, he is clear in every step he takes because he
has obviously thoroughly planned before
Andrés gives clear instructions in every activity he sets. Proper concept
Informer questions are made to check understanding. If any student does not
understand what to do, he will explain whatever he/she needs in a most clear
manner
Manager
He is aware of the Ss when they are working in pairs/groups and he solves any
Monitor doubt it might happen. He is specially aware of these doubts in the early stages,
so they can perform well at the end.
Nominates every student to keep him/her as much involved as possible. He
Involver keeps an eye on Ignacio and Julia, who are not as strong as Rocío or Nicolás and
they are easily distracted.
Parent / Carer Despite being friendly, Andrés is clearly a teacher’s figure. He is serious in his
(not friend) work and if any student gets distracted he’ll kindly let him/her know.
He praises the Ss and encourages them, he definitely plays this role
Motivator
Andrés is aware of any problem it might occur, being this technical or related to
Diagnostician the lesson. He quickly finds a way to solve the problem and continue with the
lesson.
Resource
This happens in the breakout rooms, which are not set today. Instead, he turns
