ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT IN HEALTHY YOUNG ONES

2019-2020

More than a quarter of the world’s population is between the ages of 10 and 24, with 86% living in
less developed countries. These young people are tomorrow’s parents. The reproductive and sexual
health decisions they make today will affect the health and wellbeing of their communities and of their
countries for decades to come.
Last October 26, 2019 the BHW Barangay Health Workers headed by Mr Richard Salado conducted
the Healthy young ones with the aim to educate the students about their sexual reproductive health.
In particular, two issues have a profound impact on young people’s sexual health and reproductive
lives: family planning and HIV/AIDS. Teenage girls are more likely to die from pregnancy-related
health complications than older women in their 20s. Statistics indicate that one-half of all new HIV
infections worldwide occur among young people aged 15 to 24.
In this session the students learned about changes during adolescence and why it is important to deal
with adolescents’ reproductive health problems. The students learned about factors affecting
adolescents’ risk-taking behaviours and its consequences. Also the importance of raising awareness
about adolescent reproductive health rights.

The BHW (Barangay Health Workers) aims to promote the total well-being of young students ages
14-20 through their sexual and reproductive health.

Composed of high school students, the BHW (Barangay Health Workers) helps other young people
gain a healthy understanding of their sexuality, identify their values, and practice life skills. It was
organized in Danlag National High School AVR room.

Through initiatives such as Heart-to-heart talk BHW endeavour to reduce the incidence of teenage
pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among the youth.

The BHW Barangay Health Workers is one of a few Barangay local government units in Tampakan
with a dedicated Population Office. It is tasked to implement Healthy young ones Program to achieve
a happy, well-empowered Filipino family.
