URGENT

NOT URGENT TEMPORARY PERMANENT

SUBJECT: Using the IP parameter “DTMF mode” for double DTMF on outgoing calls or
incoming wrong detection.

1. PROBLEM
There are malfunctions related to double DTMF on outgoing calls, or wrong DTMF detection by IP
boards (INTIP/GD) DSP on incoming calls.

2. SOLUTION
The parameter IP=> IP Parameters "DTMF mode" must be managed before making complex
investigations.

Warning : The modification of this parameter must be followed by a reset of IP

boards (INTIP/GD).

2.1 Values et Role of the parameter

This parameter can take three values: 0, 1 or 2.
These values will affect the processing of DTMF in IP cards DSP.
Mode 0 and Mode 1 concern sending DTMF from the "TDM world" to "IP world", this is the case
when DTMF are sent from analog sets, or during incoming ISDN/T2 calls to IP.
Mode 2 concern DTMF detection.
2.2 Resolution of known malfunctions

2.2.1 Configuration example

----------VPN -IP ------------

Z set ------- Node 1 -------- IP link ------Node 2 ----ISDN / T2 ---> (outgoing)

incoming ISDN/T2 ---^

2.2.2 The DTMF received on T2 or sent by Z equipment on Node 1 are doubled

on the outgoing T2 on Node 2
The DSP in Node 1 detect the DTMF to send it in the IP signalization of VPN hop, but the beginning
of DTMF – before detection by the DSP – in sent in-band, so the remote can possibly detect two
DTMF.

DTMF Mode 0 is the default value
DTMF Mode 0 (default value) => During the first 40 milliseconds of DTMF sending on IP, the
signal is scrambled in the band to avoid the remote detection, and at the same time to not
degrade the voice if it is a false detection.
In some cases, despite the scramble, the remote detect a double DTMF.
In this case use DTMF Mode =1
DTMF Mode 1 => During the first 40 milliseconds of DTMF sending on IP, the signal is
replaced by silences; this ensures that remote detector cannot be activated. In this case, there is
no double DTMF.

2.2.3 The DTMF received on ISDN incoming call are not detected by the DSP
In case of digits wrong detection (mainly short digits between 40 and 55ms) you must use DTMF
mode=2.

DTMF Mode 2 => allow a DTMF detection "full Q24" (by default the detection is not
completely Q24 but in a mode which avoid false detection creating BIP in the conversation).

Remarque : DTMF Mode 2 is available from following Releases/versions

R9.1 i1.605.33
R10.0 j1.410.39
R10.1 All versions
